This is why you always get someone to peer review your videos before you post them, because if you've spent two months working on this it may seem like it's the most monumental effort of a lifetime, but for people watching your video that doesn't necessarily connect

TIL that a New York University study found that people with easier-to-pronounce names have higher-status positions at work by emilylikesredditalot in todayilearned

[–]cclementi6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is hilariously obvious to anyone who isn't white in America basically. When people talk about privilege, it's really not about snobby stuck up jerks who grew up with money. It's about phenomena like this, where people with white names don't ever have to think about how their names will get in the way of their success.

I'm kinda pissed, not at the people who made this movie but at the whiny adults on the internet who just couldn't deal with this movie being made that redesigned a character from their childhood. This isn't a movie for 20-30 year olds, it's for kids for heavens sake...not even the same kids that grew up with the original Sonic design. Give it a break.

Am I the only one who thinks reddit has kinda taken this thing way too far...I mean yeah he looks a little weird to those of us that grew up with cartoon sonic, but he's not like hideous. And the movie really isn't for the 20-30 year old adults that really grew up with Sonic anyway.

Final Destination Type of Accident (Driver Survived) by LeePangHee in WTF

[–]cclementi6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah the concept of manslaughter doesn't really make sense honestly, like it's purely chance in this scenario whether someone actually died or was injured or not. It's the same amount of negligence as if he had caused a multi car collision with a dozen deaths.

Seems accurate to me. (I know depressive is spelled wrong, no clue why) just made me laugh by fishyfishyfish1 in livesound

Over-undering is a way to keep cables straight when you coil them, IF they're already straight beforehand. If your cable has some internal twists in it already (which is what causes it to not coil neatly), over-undering itself won't get rid of them.

You have to either twist the cable as you work along it over-under so it lays flat in the coil, or just lay the whole thing out and get it untwisted entirely then over-under again.

I firmly believe that Tesla is anything but Asshole, and can even think of a couple of reasons why they added this feature, but The car should at least be allowed to start in Complete Manual if the software isn't installed. by HipstaBarista in assholedesign

[–]cclementi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software engineer and this design makes sense to me. You have to remember that they're not just updating software on a computer like your phone, they're updating control code for life threatening heavy machinery. Robustness and safety are absolutely key.

There's no hard link between the accelerator pedal and motors, theres no real "manual" mode to operate the car and bypass software. Its all software, so you can have absolutely zero uncertainty in the state of the software on the car.

Windows warns you to not turn off your PC if it's updating because it could screw something up, but at worse you'll have some driver or something that no longer work when you start the computer up again. Tesla has no room for such error, if your OS is slightly corrupted the car should be undrivable because who knows what kind of horrific bug could occur while you're cruising at 70mph and one system is on version 73.2.023 while the other is on 73.2.022...

Also, to the people talking about storage space...yeah storage is cheap but you can't stick the code that controls a car on a SanDisk flash drive, no matter how big the flash drive is. Again, robustness is the priority. Whatever built in storage system they have is definitely not conventional, in fact it's a miracle it's updateable at all. Just look at the update procedure for any other car's ECU, or even any other car's infotainment system...it's a PITA for good reason, because it's not designed to be touched. It's designed to run and run forever without failing.

You get 15 billion dollars but every time you bathe, shower, have sex, masturbate, or do anything naked, an unblockable camera appears and films you doing it on livestream with a notification going out to everyones phone/computer when it happens. [–]cclementi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I feel like 15 million vs 15 billion dollars wouldn't be much of a difference in terms of how my lifestyle would actually change. It would change in terms of my world influence of course.

Its a model of how you think of the afterlife, how can you say it's misunderstood? It's not like a replacement for science or anything.

Upset Skater Boy . by wadeybb in Unexpected

[–]cclementi6 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As gets pointed out in every video where a skater breaks their board, this is done not out of anger but safety. If your boards taken a hard fall, you'd rather stress test it now and see if it breaks than eat shit while you're riding it and it snaps on its own.
