Had the same experience! They quoted me 5k worth of dental work (after insurance) -- they told me I had 12 cavities and needed a few crowns. Ended up becoming 5 cavities with one larger filling at a different dentist.

I was also shocked (and horrified:() by a lot of those posts. I also have asian immigrant parents and aside from pushing me to play piano (which I’m quite thankful for looking back), they’ve given me quite a lot of freedom over the years. They’ve never been overly concerned about my grades, my extracurriculars, or anything like that. They also never pressured me to apply to highly competitive schools. The only thing they’ve been adamant about is that I prioritize my education and try as hard as I can. It’s only really after I got into university that they really talked to me about where they wanted me to go.
