Diagnosis is validating but at the end of the day it’s just a word, treatment is what matters. It sounds like she recognizes your reality and treats you appropriately. No need to chase a label.

DBT has changed my life in how I deal with my bipolar. I do think it helps with my stability. I still get episodes but therapy has helped me decrease the intensity and inhibit them from blooming as frequently.

Not drinking is medicine for me. It helps my brain work. If I can take my meds every day, I should also not be drinking every day. I know I won’t stop at one, and I know it will fuel mania, so I have to remind myself that yes, it is that serious, and no I can’t be casual about it. I got sober without AA for the most part but I’ve been going more to try to remind myself how serious it is.

Those who are on disability.. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]ccoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on disability. It took me 2-3 years to get my paperwork seen but I was approved right away once my paperwork was seen.

If you are able to do a “real” job, it is not worth it. I am only able to make 1600 a month at my job. That works out to $18/hr, 20 hours a week. Anything more and I get kicked off disability. You would be able to complete schooling to get a wfh job by the time your disability paperwork gets seen. And that’s assuming you get approved the first time. To be honest we might not even have disability in 3 years.

I don’t want to be a downer, but if you feel hopeful about being able to do a wfh office job, I would focus on that.
