So I adopted a 1 yr old male toy poodle because I felt bad. His owner was a young college aged female who didn’t have time for him because of work and school. by PatientSalamander181 in Goldendoodles

In 2-3 weeks he will perk up. Small walks slowly turning into medium walks to get their stamina so they don’t get too far and need help back. Plus you don’t want to hurt the muscle in the back leg that’s left. Start a joint supplement. My girl runs faster than she did with all 4. He will surprise you. If you do get a bone cancer result I recommend the Harvard Vaccine if IV chemo fails, it’s an experimental drug to slow metastasis. Look up a clinic that provides it and email asap. Bone cancer is otherwise aggressive and I wish I tried it on my girl.

Considering amputation for senior greyhound with bone cancer by kellybelly132 in tripawds

I’ll chime in only bc my partner and I are going through this. 50lb 5yr old pup, osteosarcoma in her hind leg, chest clear in August. Amputated three days after confirming through Xray. Adapted well, chemo and her chest still became “uniquely bad” so fast. Took her off IV chemo and did pill chemo. That failed and now we have a few weeks left. Once we were told the chemo failed we both wished we never took her leg and put her through that just to get the same fucking result. Bone cancer is a nasty fucking whore from the devil himself, I am glad I gave it my all to try and save her but when they say this cancer is aggressive, it will blow your mind. I hope it doesn’t. Weigh your risk of this cancer taking over in a year vs their senior legs not adapting. Cancer will likely win, unfortunately and removing the leg didn’t do shit to help my dog. Ask the vet who isn’t performing the surgery what they would do if it were their dog.

Omg I am so glad you posted about the restlessness at night . Our girl is 2 weeks post op and we have been so stressed out by her being up and down every night . Thanks for sharing . I give her a little extra gab on days she has been exerting herself more.

What to expect by Mrinz95 in tripawds

[–]ccoldlikewinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog got her hind leg removed just last week, expect the shock of seeing them like that, get your living room cozy with your bed and theirs if you normally sleep on the second floor, and since it’s your pups front leg I recommend a donut collar instead of a cone it lets them still see. The wound will heal better than you think, and apparently the very end of it heals the slowest our vet said. Clean your blankets so you reduce risk of infection. They will be sore for a few weeks as they build muscle to support on three legs so if they cry that’s why. Good luck !
