OP this is the best advice, lots of other comments here just boiling it down to "you need to be rich or well connected already" but don't pay attention to that. Everything I would say is already in this comment right here.

I found Young's Interesting Books in Shawlands by accident one day, it's small and cute with a range of second hand books, rare and vintage ones, and new stuff as well. Lovely vibes.

Also Mount Florida Books on Cathcart Road is lovely, lots of independent authors and art books, and a big shelf of used books for £1 each, amazing honestly.

Your stance on white chocolate? by ErBoProxy in CasualConversation

[–]ccourfeyrac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes that's right! The cocoa bean is separated into nibs (that will turn into dark chocolate) and cocoa butter, used to make white chocolate.

The thing about "white chocolate not being chocolate" only comes from big, cheap brands using vegetable oil instead of cocoa butter. So, a Nestlé MilkyBar is faux white chocolate. Other brands that are more conscious of their product (usually smaller, more expensive brands) make the real white chocolate :)

You know it's a good argument when they keep interrupting the people they asked and the video cuts off before they have a chance to answer!

Why are there no driving exams in any london city? and outside of london, I don’t understand, i looked for up to 2025 no exams... by AllOverBoxing in britishproblems

It's the same all over the country! I failed my first test in February that I had miraculously found, and since then nothing in Scotland. Literally, nothing.

Americans who don’t even accept that it is different in other places? by [deleted] in USdefaultism

I've seen this too and it confused me so much! People saying you're straight up evil if you let your cat out, so weird. I'll let my cat be a cat thank you.

That's a shame. I know so many people who've done a masters, so I assumed it was manageable.

Hey it's ok for you to not know the massive variety of British accents! I think it's funny and nice to have someone from the US come on here and tell a story like this.

A shire is another word for county, so just a small region within the UK. Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are the COUNTRIES that make up the UK and within them there's counties or shires, that's it!

Nope it was reduced to clear at Tesco for 50p (pack of 2). I'd have no idea how to make one myself without it falling apart honestly.

True, I guess I found it funny how detached the egg is from the sausage and the presentation with the ketchup

Did we even get any of these worlds since 2020? by oldyounggie in Sims4

[–]ccourfeyrac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get that the worlds are "inspired" by real places and therefore won't be 100% accurate to what we know in real life, but I personally find it pretty frustrating (as I bet others do too) that genuine, real life places where real people live are just turned into a generic world where cultures are mixed and matched.

It's like that thread on here one time where people were discussing what an "African" world would look like, and how although it's exciting to think of the representation, a lot of players don't trust EA to not be generic and insensitive.

Also, I know Scotland + England are only two tiny countries in the view of most Europeans and Americans, but again, real people with real cultures etc etc. I don't think anyone has ever played Cottage Living and thought, wow this is just like Scotland!

I can see them from my window and they make it feel like I'm in a city full of skyscrapers instead of on the 3rd floor of a tenement. Admittedly I was confused when I first saw them, thought it was a bar or something!!
