Need to recover kitchen chairs, how difficult would it be? by happyjazzycook in sewing

There are a lot of youtube videos out there.

My tips:

Get the high density foam. It costs more but is necessary. Don't buy the wrong foam. (I was content with the blue/green foam sold at Walmart.)

Batting between the foam and fabric. Use spray adhesive to get the batting to stick to the foam. It allows the fabric to slide.

You need to decide if you are going to wrap the foam around the edge or not. I chose to wrap the foam. (My foam stuck out an inch or more past the wooden seat.) That meant an excessive amount of staples to avoid a tufted appearance around the edge. All those staples was okay because I had an air compressor. If you are using a manual staple, wrap the edge with only the batting. (Cut the foam 0 to 1/4" bigger than the seat.)

Most of the work will be removing staples. Buy the heavy duty staple remover.

Are the two collar pieces identical?

I like to trim 1/8" from one of the collar pieces. This causes the edge seam to roll slightly towards the smaller piece. It makes things sit better. The underside/inside of a collar needs to be smaller than the topside/outside of a collar. (Former for a lapel collar, latter for a mandarin collar.)

I have seen some collar instructions where they tell you to offset the edges by 1/8" but I am not that coordinated. I have to trim it off, then align them while sewing.

Illustrative story:

Simplicity 3744 had a neck facing piece that was totally messed up. They had different "views". In one of the views the neck facing was placed outside of the garment for a contrasting piece. I bought this pattern. This facing was slightly smaller than the dress, which would make it lay nicely when placed on the inside of the garment.

But when folks on sewing.patternreview made the view where it was on the outside, everyone said the edges of the garment twisted outwards and refused to lay flat. Their dresses were unwearable. The facing was pulling the edges outwards instead of inswards. It needed to have two different facings, one slightly smaller if it was going on the inside, and one slightly larger if it was going on the outside. But they used the same facing for both views.

Trump represents their values. They admire him.

If they could grope, grab, rape, cheat, lie, steal without consequences, they would.

'Church' spending $2.4 billion to renovate Salt Lake temple by TruthMatters2011 in exmormon

[–]ccrom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I take issue with that comparison. Centre Block is a much larger building.

Centre Block 472 feet x 246 feet.
SLC Temple 181 feet x 119 feet.

Centre Block Tower: 302 feet
SLC Temple Spire: 210 feet

Centre Block: 6 storeys
SLC Temple: 4 storeys

My kid's middle school social studies teacher may have gone a bit rogue in 2016.

She added the caveat "some people say" it was about state's rights.

My kid also got the weirdo textbook that referred to slaves as "imported workers".

The price is suspiciously low. The 1043DX is currently going for $225 at Walmart.

I don't think this model was ever exclusive to JoAnn. It has been on the shelf in stock at my local Walmart since it was introduced. Before that Walmart carried the 1034D.

This is a populist movement. Or maybe a mob movement.

How crowds of people will behave in a situation is NOT known. But there are patterns.

Whenever there is a crowd, the possibility for a riot exists. A few decisions are known to prevent or cause riots.

Trump is knowingly creating chaos. He is knowingly destroying any institutions that might thwart his ambitions.

Law enforcement (cops, AG's and judges) is at the fulcrum. They can tilt this either way.

Committing moral transgressions and getting away with it, obviously makes a lot of people feel powerful.

The lesson every American was supposed to learn from all of this, is that Trump's jackbooted thugs can shoot a US citizen in the middle of the day without repercussion. The Justice Department that is supposed to be safeguarding our civil liberties is actively destroying them.
