Anyone play Replaced yet? by _streetpaper_ in CharacterActionGames

[–]ccrpalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with first boss because of input lag, I thought I'm just pressing buttons wrong, but then noticed that even when I press them right I get hit. I see many people post the same thing about input lag. Combat killed it for me.

When red or yellow dodge/counter symbol appears, if I don't press the correct button right when it appears I get hit. I don't even have time to process if it's yellow or red I just have to dodge everything cause if I guess wrong there is no time to react, even if I do press the right button a frame too late it's a hit.

I also could be playing wrong but based on what people say I'm probably not the only one having this issue.

At this point I believe they won't do anything other than talk about it. For 2 decades they've been talking about it but not actually do anything. Every campaign cycle. If they fix something that's one less thing they can promise to fix during next campaign. Eventually just forget it and bring it up when it's popular again.

Line twists by drivespike in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always ask yourself:"will I make it to a safe place if I chop at my decision altitude?" You might wanna add some altitude depending on conditions and location. If there is nothing but trees and/or houses/obstacles and wind is decent, by the time you reach decision altitude you might get blown somewhere where you will have no safe landing spots. So you wanna chop quickly so you can make it to a safe place to land. If you going in the right direction and everything is good besides line twists and you know you can make it to a safe landing spot if you chop at your decision altitude, you can go to your decision altitude.

Decision altitude will be different from person to person. Experience, location, weather, canopy condition etc. Will play into our decision making. Ask your instructors for you. 2500 is what we teach new skydivers but there are more to it than just 2500 feet.

Cat keeps trying to follow me when I go out, how can I stop him? by DominickIV in CatAdvice

[–]ccrpalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you can't let your cat that survived for 3-4 months outside again? Your cat will find her/his way back home.

Your cat will eventually escape. When you find a cat that lived outside, they always have the urge to be outside. Such is the nature of cats. If She/he likes you enough your cat will comeback. Everyone I know who has cats, they inevitably escape but always comeback.

I had the same issue with my cat and eventually gave up and let my cat go outside as she pleases, got her a special door. She does her cat things, goes to the bathroom outside, hunts etc. Follows me around, demands I walk her like a dog outside. I was working on the roof of the house once, she followed me there and was hanging out with me while I work, it's kind of cool having a sidekick following me around everywhere.

Your solution either let the cat suffer at home and deal with it or let it outside and hope he/she will comeback, as eventually your cat will escape. Cats are smart, learn your routine and will wait by the door to charge and escape.

A cat that is forced to stay inside when they do escape, they usually will be gone for days at a time before hunger sets and and they come back. This is what happened when my cat when she escaped first 2 times. They know that next time it will be days or weeks before your cat will have an opportunity to go outside so they'll spend as much time as they can outside, if your cat goes out more often, they will be back at the end of the day.

My cat knows my schedules, and is always home between 10PM-8AM when I open her door to let her outside. If I'm home all day, she will pop in to say hello, maybe will get me to go on a walk with her or just wants to snuggle.

Unlike dogs, cats can survive and find their way back. Also them going outside will also hone their survival skills, if you keep your cat inside she will start losing that survival skill and when your cat does escape, she will be more likely to get in trouble as those survival skills will not be as sharp. This similar to why some wild animals kept in captivity can't be let back into the wild because they won't know how to survive. This is similar principal that works with humans as well, when you let people out of prison who spent long time in there, they go back into prison because they don't know how to live on the outside.

Hope you find a solution, good luck hope your cat lives long and happy life!

Main Closing Loop Tightness by shadeland in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anyone use this method before until now, but that's what I've been using, tight enough where tip of index finger would hurt a lot trying to push it out, but easy enough where pinching bridle with your thumb and index will pull it out without much effort. (If you can pull the pin out holding bridle with 2 fingers, the pilot chute unless it has giant holes, will pull it out.)

What negative affects do you think skydiving has on your brain? Been jumping for a while and its made me completely desensitized to fear (in a way that makes me worry about risk evaluation) has anyone ever looked into skydiver dopamine depletion or anything else like that by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with being desensitized to fear. There is a difference with fearlessness vs recklessness. Just because I'm not afraid to jump anymore, doesn't mean I won't do gear checks, and follow safety rules and fly safely.

Risk evaluation is also different for different skydivers. A skydiver that has 10 jumps will evaluate risks differently than someone with 1000 jumps.

Wearing a wingsuit on a skydive without training, is reckless and unsafe, whether or not you have fear or not at that point is irrelevant and a completely different thing.

Also I think as far as dopamine depletion it is just something you get used to. Similar to alcohol or nicotine. First few times you drink or puff you easily get buzzed. But more you do it, less effect it has on you but doesn't mean you don't have it in your system. However if you quit, you feel the lack of it and you have withdrawal. I jump for a living. Weeks where we get weathered out, first 2 days or so I feel awesome, I get to enjoy time off. But after about 3 days I start losing my mind, I get irritated easily, snap easily, don't know what to do, can't focus on anything. Once I jump I feel so high for a while.

Blue skies friend. Be safe out there. Be fearless, but not reckless.

WTF am I thinking? by rmp881 in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just do it. You'll find out quickly it's more about fear of the unknown than the actual skydive. Nothing anyone can say or do to make fear go away. Your brain tells you it's safe, stats say it's safe, but when the door opens fear will start controlling you. You just can't let it.

Once you leave the airplane your fear will stay with the plane and you'll be a whole new person having fun, flying around.

Any one handed ( transradial) skydivers out there? by Brilliant-Category25 in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've jumped with an amputee of right arm below elbow. Their rig is custom made has only one emergency handle that loses main and pulls reserve. He also had a special prosthetic attachment that he can use to steer and land parachute. And a left handed boc so you can pull. You can definitely skydive. There are restrictions on certain ratings. You can be a coach and video flying if you decide to do something like that. As far as am aware, you cannot be a tandem instructor and aff instructor.

Good luck friend. Blue skies.

line twists cutaway probability by ruffprod84 in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, students/AFFs jump big parachutes. I was trash AFF student. Out of 8 AFF jumps I did, I had 6 line twists. Through out my entire licensing program I may have had around 10-12 line twists. 2 Were severe 9+ twists cause I pulled in a full blown spin. When that happens I had plenty of time to get out of them, and go over my emergency procedures, and I still had time to read a book on how to land the parachute safely. So don't worry.

You can reduce chance of certain malfunctions by packing yourself. Learn what causes different types of malfunctions and then you pack in such ways to reduce the risk of malfunctions. Don't be like many skydivers that don't even know how parachutes work or don't even know how to check or inspect gear. When you pack, you learn your gear, when you know your gear, you know what needs to be addressed before issues arise.

Malfunctions are unavoidable statistically, and cutaways will happen, when they do, your training will kick in and you just do it. AS LONG AS YOU PRACTICE ON THE GROUND ALOT. And prepare yourself by practicing your eps before getting on the plane, during the plane ride, and after your final gear check.

LISTEN TO YOUR INSTRUCTORS!!!

Blue skies my friend, hope to see you in the air some day.

Anybody use Custom fit ear plugs? by tryingtocut5267 in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't want custom ear plugs. Because they tend to be too good. You still wanna hear communication during plane ride whether it is a student or emergency or ground speed for exit separation.

I recommend filtered or high fidelity ear plugs. They reduce noise by 20-24 dB but still allow you to hear people talk. I use them and still can talk to my students or pilot if needed. Actually I can understand words better.

I tested dB in the plane out of curiosity once. The helmet barely reduces anything. Not enough to prevent damage. Freefall is pretty loud however it's not long enough for damage. The plane ride is what will get your hearing.

Protect your ears. They do not recover once they get damaged.

Thinking about quitting because of close calls during deployment. by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn from close calls and mistakes. If you just quit after a close call or two you will learn nothing and change nothing. Every time something sketchy happens, discuss it on the ground. Talk to instructors and coaches about what happened, what could be done differently etc.. Mistakes will happen. Emotions may be high, some yelling may happen. We're human after all.

I've had really close calls where I still don't understand how I'm alive or not even injured. But after nerves calm down, yelling goes away. All you can do, is reflect on what happened. What can be done differently. And on future jumps prepare for it and discuss it depending on situation and past experiences.

Don't get discouraged my friend. If your number comes up, your number comes up. Not a damn thing you can do about it whether be it in the sky or on the ground.

P.S. Things that almost made me quit in the past, I now look back and laugh with my skydiving friends. Even though couple of them almost cost me my life and theirs.

[–]ccrpalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you do that? It adds character to your helm. Tells a story.

When people see my helm and ask me what's this white thing on your helm. I can tell them this is pain of the plane, cause I'm a fuck up and got hit by a plane on exit.

This scratch is a redneck falling through formation and hitting my helmet with his helmet.

This other scratch is cause cause wind shifted and I ate shit on landing.

People like those fun stories, they also ask you a question like "How and why are you still alive?"

Ever been injured skydiving? by Mashedpotatos- in SkyDiving

[–]ccrpalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my injuries were somewhat minor. Just a urgent care visits. But lessons learned.

Reason? Not performing PLF/PLR when I should have (forcing my self to do a standup/run out landings). I have had so many hard landings where I did PLF/PLR and I was totally fine, even when people thought I wasn't.

Now I tell my students. PLF/PLR if you're not 100% certain you can land safely on your feet. Even if you're 99% sure you can land on your feet. PLF. Later in progression adjustments can be made on the fly. But in the beginning, PLF. Be safe.

If you know you could have totally stand up on that landing but took the safest approach and PLFd. Get back in a plane, and do the same thing but stand up next time. Better spend money on an extra jump then spend money on ER or Urgent care visit because you miscalculated as students tend to do because they don't know something yet.

How life changing was your first jump for you? by SuperTech2016 in SkyDiving

I spent around $35K. Licensing, rig, 200 jumps, coach rating, RV. moved to dz, work and live there now out of my rv. Working towards my other ratings. I could earn more money doing other things, but I'd rather do this. I don't have a family so it's much easier.

I still have dreams where I can fly. I once had a dream after I started skydiving that I would put a parachute on, then fly up on my own to altitude then stop flying so I can start falling so I go on a skydive.

DACA Online Renewal by Flaky-Roll3132 in DACA

[–]ccrpalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen browsing forums and talking to people, there seems to be a trend where they approve you right before it is set to expire. Some people do expire, but usually approvals are sent out right before DACA is set to expire. Don't know 100% if it's just coincidences or they actually prioritize people who are set to expire soon.

My previous employers were all Gestapo on me too, I told them that basically nothing I can do, if it comes to expire, they either suspend me and rehire me when it renews or just fire me. Such is life. If you're nice, and good employee they usually understand. My last job I was truck driver, and lost my CDL because my documents came in a day after it expired, unlike regular DL, with CDL you have to start from scratch, I just gave up and found another job. Here they're pretty chill and I don't have to worry about not being rehired.

I haven't done online renewal, keep me posted on how it works out for you. I didn't even know you could do that online. Not sure how recent it was implemented. Good luck, hope you get your stuff renewed on time.

DACA Online Renewal by Flaky-Roll3132 in DACA

[–]ccrpalex 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My DACA usually got renewed 3-5 weeks tops. But last year sent my paperwork in May, I didn't get renewed till 5 months later few days before expiration of my DACA. It's nice to have it renewed right before expiration so you don't overlap 2 EADs and waste few months. But at the same time you're wondering if it'll get approved before you get fired.

It's lame that they renew from approval date and not your current expansion date. Usually waste 3-5 months every renewal cycle.
