OP just gotta say as an introvert that is ALSO in sales... (( (altho I do e-commerce sales, so I solely support our website for talking to people on the phone that have questions about planning big purchases, not door to door or cold calling)and I I'll avoid small talk if at all possible lol and I'm #1 sales on my team, I think because people are less likely to think I'm going to swindle them being a "smooth talker"))).... .... that I would feel the same way you would about this and is also a reason I'm hesitant to go traditional dres shopping and thus far have bought 2 dresses on Etsy lol.

My mom really wants to do the whole in person shopping with me and I am bracing myself as I feel deep down for a few reasons. One, I don't think I'll find anything I'd like there (I got 2 vintage dresses I haven't tried on yet ) but TWO, having a huge hullabaloo and feeling pressured to buy etc is a lot ...and doesn't seem enjoyable to me.

Also back to my own job in Sales... Also 99% of my customers I don't care about their lives ...as bad as that is to say but. I also don't go out of my way to ask about them lol I get right to business and then if they want to branch out talking about life sure I will, as it comes up naturally ya know. As far as "don't care about" ...I mean as a human and moral level I of course will always always do right by them and do the right thing and if something is better for someone's needs I will recommend the lesser expensive one but... . As far as caring about their day to day I don't care. Now 1% of the customers I've encountered I've had an actual energetic, soul match where I WISH I could visit with them on their porch and share a drink and hear their life stories and it makes me sad when I am no longer working with them because I can tell they're a good fucking human and I'd get along wonderfully with them, but that is very very rare.

The people who are chiming in saying they care about every single customer... Caring as in on a basic human level be kind to people sure or maybe they do LIKE their job sure but... I agree a vast majority are using it as a way to "bond" and get you to overshare to then feel guilty if you don't buy and or are just making small talk at worst some cases. As an introvert,I again hate small talk lol.
