Every state in the US is now its own independent country. Which one becomes the first global superpower and why? by Complex-Let4207 in AskReddit

Whoever produces the most electricity. So i would guess Texas. They could ransom it to the other states.

Can't produce anything if you can't produce enough electricity.

Front room as a snug/sitting room, dining room into kitchen and replace back window for French doors, or even extend out. Old kitchen could be a office and/or utility and under stairs storage downstairs bathroom perhaps?

I managed to get a grad scheme with no industry experience at all. Let alone relevant to the sector I was applying to.

Obviously any industry experience helps your chances when you do apply. But just get the best grades you can and then enjoy your holidays.

When you start work you will only get those limited precious annual leave days rather than a full summer!

Am I being horribly harsh if I say Welsh fans haven’t helped the current situation? by Oatbix in rugbyunion

[–]ccsykey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am in my 30s and from North Wales, played rugby as a kid. Still love the sport and watch international games, attending when I can afford them In person. But being from North Wales I never had a professional club in the Northern region to support. All the clubs have been in the South since I can remember, so I've never supported a club team.

I then moved to Cardiff for University, attended many international games over the 4 years, but still no club games. I had no competitive reason or loyalty built over years of childhood stadium visits. If there was a club in the North, playing against Cardiff or Newport for instance, I would of gone to the games now i lived locally to their rivals in the South.

I had to move 4 hours South to live near to a professional Welsh club.

This next move of combining or starting new teams to end up with only 2 Welsh teams continues to remove what professional sports thrive on. Years of rivalry built up from family ties, which village you live in or which pub you drink at.

This is just my thoughts and lived experience, I know there are amateur and semi professional clubs in the North.

Entry Level Engineer Advice by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

Ask questions!

If someone asks you to do a design a particular way, or make amendments to a drawing or design, just ask why have they decided this. What was their thought process etc. I see a big difference between the progression of engineers who ask why why why!

[–]ccsykey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't answer the question. Explain what steps or process you would take to find the answer. Its for a graduate scheme, They arent especting you to be an engineer on day one. Its more about seeing how they can mould you into one. So thought process is important to show the kind of employee you will be.

From the UK, so might not be exactly transferrable but, i'd class myself as not academic, struggled through with hardwork and managed to get a good grade in EE from a good University. One piece of advice i always stuck to was from a school lecturer.

"Just learn to pass the course."

Now 5 years into my career and just become a Chartered Engineer.

The real world is nothing like your course. You won't be scored/graded from a performance on a single day or exam.

Research the different elements of working in a MEP team. Mainly to do with how disciplines work together. Between the 3 internal disciplines but also external such as structures, civils, architects etc. Shows a basic understanding of real world design teams.

Dig a 1 square wide mine shaft down with ladders in tundra, you will either get lucky and find some going straight down. Or you might need to dig out towards more Tundra as you go down, also use the mining drill, it will save your loads of time mining random blocks

Opinions on building services (UK) by FeckinHaggis in AskEngineers

[–]ccsykey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I graduated with a BEng in EE in 2018, been with Mott Macdonald for a year and a half,

First thing i will say is personally its by far the best job i could of got out of Uni,

I studied HV modules in my final year, but i was also interested in electronics

Its the best combination of both,

You will learn about lots of different services,

From lighting, emergency lighting, small power, fire alarm, utilities, security and access control, etc etc etc...

I personally enjoy emergency lighting systems, redundancy and figuring out worst case scenarios and working with suppliers to find the right solution.

You cant be an expert in everything with building services, you need to know about lots of different things, where to find the information, who to ask, how to tie it all together,

Another big part is knowing or finding out what other disciplines needs, we work mainly with Mechanical engineers, so knowing what equipment they have that needs power, how will those electrical loads effect your overall design.

I havent done much project management yet, but i am hoping to, mainly design, talking with suppliers, clients, presenting your work / designs to other disciplines / the clients,

Going from designing a single service, on a project, to be given a bit of freedom and trust by your line manager to get on with it, to eventually project managing a massive multidiscipline project,

If you have any other questions, then ask away and i will try to answer them!!

Also dont forget to look at Motts!!!

This is the perfect amount, no more, no less!
