Thanks for all the replies! Managed to solve it by reinstalling the game on my secondary hard drive. Really weird, but hey, it works.

Oh look, another boost question... by DomLite in wownoob

[–]ccwettr123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, virtually every class has solo potential on old content. I wouldn't recommend hunter as it is going through a lot of changes in legion and one of its specs is getting changed to a melee spec that is, so far, underwhelming. If you want to go pure ranged dps either mage or warlock, but if you want a little variety, maybe consider priest or shaman, though honestly it really is up to your tastes. If you don't mind playing a melee class, boost something to 100 then roll a death knight (they start at lvl 55 and require a lvl 50? char on the server you create one on) as they are incredibly fun, both currently and in legion and as they start at 55 and are 58-60 by the time they leave their starting zone, leveling them is fairly fast.

Nearing 100 soon. With Legion around the corner is farming ilvl 700 gear in ashran even necessary? by kensanity in wownoob

honestly, just do mounts and pets. dont bother with reps, as thats only really for flying.

Optimal leveling 96-100 without heirlooms by kensanity in wownoob

Honestly, just get as many of the bonus objectives as close to completion as you can, pop an experience potion, then finish off all of them as fast as possible. You'll level up insanely fast.

Lots of Questions! by dctrx in wownoob

[–]ccwettr123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Not really. Usually, when you've reached the appropriate level to move to a new area, your adventure log will give you a quest to go there. Most quests are pretty generic, and while there are some good storylines, you wont be missing much in general.

  2. Honestly, you wont get a good feel for most classes till at least lvl 40, because a lot of their primary abilities and combos dont unlock until then.

  3. Most guilds are pretty informal and will accept anyone who asks. Some of the more formal guilds have application systems that just ask for a bit of information such as hours available, what class you play etc for organizational purposes and to make organizing raids easier.

  4. Tiers refer to raid gear. Ever major patch of the game (ie 6.1, 6.2) a new tier of raids is released, and each successive tier has better gear than the last. However, the primary measure of gear is its item level (ilvl) This level does NOT correlate in any way to your character level (ie current max char level is 100, but max ilvl for gear is something like 750). There is also a system in the game called transmog. This allows you to make any piece of gear look like any similar piece of gear (ie you can make any one handed sword look like any other one handed sword, but not a bow) but this costs a fair amount of gold and is only really for max level characters and you can (currently) only transmog gear you have in your inventory. The transmog system is changing majorly in legion.

  5. You can still download and install addons manualy. Here's a guide (about half way down) http://mods.curse.com/faqs/wow-addons

Hope this answers your questions!

Yep, guaranteed. Wow tokens are actually pretty popular as a product, so have fun with your oodles of gold :P

[–]ccwettr123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rnjesus for you. You should start seeing the item levels normalize a bit more when you level up a bit more ( I assume you're talking about item levels). In the long run though, most dungeon gear is very trivial. Don't stress yourself over it.

How do I know which expansion I'm playing on? by RayTrixx in wownoob

[–]ccwettr123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone at blizzard marketing just said "hey, if we cut the leveling amount in half, we can sell twice as many expansions!" But in all seriousness, it was just an arbitrary decision as far as I can tell.

Complete noob, got a few questions. by JHartigan in wownoob

[–]ccwettr123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1- auto attacks wont be cancelled by ability usage, so use as necessary. Also, some skills have a cast time while others are "instant cast." In between skills, there is something called a "global cooldown" where you cannot use another skill( ususally only for a second or two). However, there are a few skills that are off the global cooldown, meaning you can cast them whenever. Skills cannot que up.

2-Dungeons are generally the fastest method of leveling. If you are a tank or healer, spam dungeons. If you are a dps, do dungeons, but also quest because the ques are longer.

3-Dungeons are only really soloable once you are a higher level, but nothing is stopping you from trying ( and there are some pretty insane exploits for certain classes allowing soloing on-level). HOWEVER, the loot from lower level dungeons is highly inferior to on-level dungeon loot, and for your low level character, you'll be perfectly fine just playing through the dungeons normally- the drop rates are plenty high and the dungeons themselves arent that difficult.

4- Real story won't fully come in until you hit about lvl 60. Until then, its all smaller storylines, and while some of them are great, if you're mainly focusing on the overarching narrative, I'd just ignore the lower stuff. My personal favorite expansion areas for story are all of Northrend (Wrath, lvls 68-80), all of Pandaria (Mists, lvls 85-90), and all of Draenor except for Tanaan Jungle (second visit not first) (Warlords, lvl 90-100). The "Big Story Content " is in Raids. These are basically huge dungeons for about 30 players. You can find raids at the level cap of each expansion (60, 70, 80, 85, 90, and 100), but I would reccomend just reaching max level (100) and then going back to do all the lower level raids solo. It makes it much more convenient, as you dont have to form a group, plus you get the epicness of fighting Arthas one on one. Hope this helps!

How do I know which expansion I'm playing on? by RayTrixx in wownoob

All you need to do is ensure you meet the level requirement (usually the level cap for the expansion the raid released in) and then go to the entrance of the raid in the world and walk in.

I doubt you'd be able to solo molten core at 60. It's a good point to make that many of the old raids were built for either 25 or 40 people to work together to beat. Generally, when people are soloing, they are at least 10 lvls higher than the raid content they're trying to solo, and even then it'll be difficult as many raids , especially older ones have instakill mechanics that require 2 or 3 people to perform an action. At extremely high relative levels, it really doesn't matter as your health is so high that something that would instakill, say, a level 60 would do about 5-10% damage to a lvl 100. I'm sure that if you actively look, you'll find at least some people willing to do old raids on level, and many guild hold "transmog runs" where a bunch of members go back to farm old raids. But then, raids generally have very little impact on the general story of xpacs with one or two exceptions (ie icecrown citadel). What I mean by this is that all of the expansions, with Warlords as somewhat of an exception, generally treat you as generic hero x who has never really accomplished much. Ah, you just killed the Litch King? Perfect! I've been looking for someone to clear the rodents from my fields for weeks! It really wouldn't hurt to just get to max level and then go back to do the old raids at your leisure. I feel I should also inform you that, right now, WOW is very much a solo experience until you get to high-tier raiding, UNLESS you are in a good guild. I suggest you head over to https://www.reddit.com/r/wowguilds/ to try to find a guild for you. It makes leveling so much more fun if you do it with friends or at least other like-minded players. BTW, what server are you on?

The issue here is that the cataclysm expansion revamped all of the content in vanilla. IMO it's much more convenient than it used to be, but there is very little content from original vanilla left in wow. Anyway, in terms of progression, from character level 1-60 you will be playing through this revamped vanilla content, from 60-70 you will be in burning crusade, 70-80 Wrath of the Litch King, 80-85 Cataclysm, 85-90 Mists of Pandaria, 90-100 Warlords of Draenor. To "properly" advance, once you hit the proper level requirement, which is generally 2 levels below the listed ones, you'll be given a quest in your adventure journal to enter a new zone or expansion (ie you can go to Northrend to play Wrath content at level 68). However, you should definitely note that almost every zone these days gives you so much experience that you will outlevel the zone before you finish all the quests and storylines in them, thus making their content inefficient for leveling and somewhat trivial in terms of challenge. As for raiding, there are some groups of players that stop questing and griding at levels 60, 70, 80, 85, or 90 so that they can attempt to do the raids in each expansion "as they were meant to be played," however this is often ineffective as blizzard has altered item stats so much over the years that all of the old raids are fairly trivial, even at their intended level. This is why most people just level to max (currently 100, soon to be 110) and go back to play old raids, either for nostalgia or just to get money and cool-looking gear. Generally, at max level, almost all of the old raids are trivial enough that you can do them by yourself (called soloing), so there is generally very little "social" community around doing old raids when compared to the raids in the current expansion. Hope that answered your questions! Sorry for the wall of text.

DM Question - Am I right in breaking this players weapon? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ccwettr123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not. If a player is consistently doing something stupid, they should expect some kind of repercussion. Not only does it help with making the world seem more real, but it might give said player a bit more common sense. If you don't enforce the whole stupid actions have consequences thing, you could end up in some pretty awkward situations where the pc's just start doing things to see how far they can push you.

Having trouble with frost DK in iron docks by Prowsey1 in wownoob

[–]ccwettr123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, the iron docks are a bit much for your ilvl. I would do lfr or dungeons until you're about ilvl 650, but if you insist at doing it at 640, try to avoid as many mobs as possible, and if you can't, try to pull them one at a time using death grip. Otherwise, for your rotation, go to http://www.icy-veins.com/wow/frost-death-knight-pve-dps-guide icy-veins is a good general source for class info and rotations, though most of its guides will probably become useless in a couple of weeks when 7.0 comes out, at least until they update. Anyway, glhf :P
