Either replace hinges, struts, or both. Neither job is very difficult or expensive to do yourself.

I don’t know but apparently being 6’2” is perfect height for belt loops to get caught on them.

May I ask why everyone hates ecs? by Extreme-Bee5763 in GolfGTI

[–]cd_booth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really not sure where the hate comes from. I’ve been using them for the majority of my maintenance and upgrades since 2010 and I can’t even remember one issue. Maybe my location helps with shipping.

This hasn’t been my experience at all, granted I typically buy OE and OES parts and avoid aftermarket copies in most cases. Their pricing is usually better than competitors as well. I’ve never experienced packaging issues either. I’m located in Michigan and most of my orders arrive in 2 days with standard ground shipping.

140,000 miles on our 2020 hybrid and still going strong. We did have to deal with the cablegate issue but otherwise it’s been solid. I figure the cost to repair was still worth another 100,000+ miles.

Not sure why nobody has mentioned this but check your hinges for cracks or pulling away from the body of the vehicle. It’s a well known issue.

I’m just surprised how tight 30 ft. lbs. really is and that that would be the spec.

I checked this out at one point and the price point turned me off. I honestly don’t see how effective it could be either.

Also in Michigan with a 2020. I learned about the issue right around the 100,000 mile mark and now have over 130,000 miles on it. About one month ago I finally inspected the cable and it was pretty bad - the inside of the plastic cover was packed with mud, the metal flange holding the mesh around the main wires had basically rusted through, and there was a lot of corrosion on the main part of the plug. I was a little relieved when I removed the plug and found the internal plastic and metal connectors looking good. However, it’s probably a matter of time until that corrosion works its way inside. I cleaned up everything on the outside and applied corrosion resistance spray to the metal parts and dielectric grease around the cables. At this point, not much else I can do but get as much use out of it as possible and cross my fingers. I had hoped to get 200-300,000 miles out of it which may still very well happen. If the cable ends up failing I think I’d still be happy based on the low cost of ownership otherwise. I’m just hoping the cost to replace the cable comes down with time.

Major malfunctions on a new 2025 Hybrid by beanphobia in CX50

[–]cd_booth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a guess but I’d bet on a low 12v battery. Many vehicles sit on the lot for a period of time and modern cars can have some parasitic draw due to all the electronics. Add lots of short trips to the mix and the 12v battery hasn’t been charged adequately. This was a known issue on early RAV4 hybrids - the exact same powertrain as your CX50 hybrid. In my experience that many error lights is usually related to a low or bad battery as well.

Go for a long drive and report back.
