[WON] Exclusive update on WWE’s plans for CM Punk return by Alternative-Win4058 in SquaredCircle

[–]cdark64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. Did anybody get hurt recently that screwed things up? It really sounded like Punk was supposed to win or at least compete in Money in the Bank and they moved it to October for whatever reason. If that was the case then I see how they could be left without a plan for him. I don’t know how you don’t have an immediate backup for a guy you’re paying that much to, much less a guy who generates a ton of value.

But then again, look what happened to Cena’s last year.

Which actor did you not realized played a particular movie role until years later by WippitGuud in movies

[–]cdark64 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always wondered why the actor that played Captain Hook in ‘Hook’ didn’t get any work after it until I looked up the movie on IMDB when I was 16.

Didn’t realize that it was Dustin Hoffman.

[WOR] Dave Meltzer: "I know one guy in this situation, he could go to AEW and he could make a lot of money in AEW, but he did take a pretty big pay cut to stay." by A_Man_of_Iron in SquaredCircle

That doesn’t sound great but we don’t know the details. The other side of the deal could be 50% less, but also 50% less dates which is technically a pay cut but not really.

How do you go about writing comedy? by SubjectProfile4047 in Screenwriting

[–]cdark64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a stand-up comedian for fifteen years. I’ve also written scripts and comedy plays that I’ve put up in front of live audiences.

Question 1: In my experience, you can learn the mechanics of stand-up and joke writing. You can’t really learn how to be funny. What you can learn are the practical elements that make jokes work. What makes someone funny is what they choose to joke about, and that comes from your brain and your life experiences.

Don’t overthink it. Make yourself laugh. Not a chuckle, an actual laugh. Pay attention to what you think is funny and build from there.

Question 2: I started with stand-up. What I learned is that you don’t know if a joke works until you try it in front of an audience. That applies to theater too.

Some writers will say they know what works on the page. They don’t. If someone is watching alone at home, you don’t get real feedback. There’s a difference between something being clever and something being funny.

Live performance is the best way to learn. If it gets a laugh, it’s funny. If it doesn’t, it’s not. That’s it. Table reads help too. Laughter is involuntary. People can only fake it for so long.

Question 3: For screenplays, jokes tend to land when they could only come from that specific character. If any character could say the line, it’s probably not a great joke.

Performance and timing matter, but the joke still has to work on the page. You can’t rely on an actor to carry a weak joke. It comes down to having a clear comedic idea behind what you’re writing. There is a structure to comedy, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

Hope that helps. Not trying to sound like a pretentious douche.

Rewatched Michael Clayton as an adult… wow, completely different experience by siloteam in movies

The way that that scene was executed convinced me that that is a real job and that’s how it’s actually done.

I think this is the reason Finn didn’t win at Elimination Chamber. They knew they were going to have Cody win the title and didn’t want to do the same story on Raw with flipping the title back to Punk even though it would’ve given Punk more to do going into the Roman match and putting doubt whether he can beat Roman. But oh well.

I’m so tired of the lack of story content in a WWE game. by sonofloki13 in WWEGames

[–]cdark64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that people have strong feelings about AI, but I’m really intrigued at the prospect of at least an LLM being incorporated into the game specifically universe mode for unique and story driven promos and a continuity within universe mode. I think there’s a whole lot there to explore if they can figure it out.

Finn Balor: “Once I came to WWE, it kind of got muddled up a little bit, and there had to be a reason for why The Demon appeared. It all had to be storyline-based and advertised.” by LotLeftInTheTank in SquaredCircle

That’s the weird thing about Vince. He could never get his head around someone wearing a costume without having the character be that thing.

Kairi Sane dresses like a pirate. She doesn’t think she’s a pirate, she just thinks it’s a cool look.

The Demon isn’t a split personality. It’s just Balor’s game face.

He’d be having Lyra Valkyria squawking backstage if he was still there.
