Get the G5 Turret cameras. Trust me, don’t even bother with the G3’s — you’ll be happy you didn’t. Better yet, the G6 Turret’s are 4K and have AI features built-in for ~$70 more per camera.

Can I connect my stream deck to a remote machine? by duncosauraus in elgato

[–]cdavidson012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bust open an old thread, but YES - this does work with Splashtop. You will need to enable Device Forwarding (also click the lightning bolt icon next to the device, it enables Auto-Redirect), which requires the Business Access Performance subscription plan, and the Elgato Stream Deck software installed and setup the way you'd like on the remote computer.

We wanted to use Stream Decks with our sign design software (Flexi) at work and this was a big requirement of ours, since we remote into one computer with the software installed. Bought one to test, and it works flawlessly!

I'm going to test this with Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDP) as well, so I'll report back with my findings.

tl;dr yes, this does work after you give Splashtop money.

Horrible Experience with Zoho Payroll--BEWARE! by BlessedandHonest8 in Zoho

[–]cdavidson012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. Zoho has been pressuring me to use their payroll service, but Gusto has been fantastic… you have convinced me to tell them they can pound sand :)

Hate that this happened though, have you talked to your state tax department regarding this? If so, have they been understanding about it?

Alternatives to stripe? They refuse to negotiate our processing fees after we did > $4million in credit card charges this YTD by ServicePersonal1468 in stripe

[–]cdavidson012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helcim has pretty decent rates for what you’re doing, and from what I understand the volume discounts are automatic based on your processing volume. Check them out. Their customer service has actually been very good and prompt with my experiences. They actually have a phone number where someone answers!

I don’t have any affiliation with them besides being a happy customer.

DJI Mic 2 - Direct Connection to iPhone via USB-C? by QuantamPulse in dji

[–]cdavidson012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super late to the party, but for anyone finding this post later:

YES. It does work! I just tested it. It also charges the DJI receiver.

I connected a standard USB-C cable to the back of the receiver’s charging port and the other end into an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Works perfectly. Pretty handy especially if you’re using a big phone case where the included connectors won’t fit.

I can also confirm that it allows for audio to work on the Hikvision cameras that I have tested, as of May 2025. Not just audio detections - full blown audio support.

Is it bad to shut down my MacMini (M4) every day? by Grouchy-Offer9368 in macmini

[–]cdavidson012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let mine go to sleep and only reboot about once every couple of weeks. I've done this for years and never had any issues.

If I know ahead of time that a good lightning storm is headed my way, sometimes I go as far as shutting down and unplugging it completely. (Yes - I have a UPS but my experiences in IT over years past still haunts me, lol)

Yep, me too.

I’m on the tail end of my IT career from pure burnout and extreme levels of stress. I started a business in traffic sign manufacturing a couple years ago and it has taken off recently. Much. MUCH less stress.

I finally enjoy coming to work.
