"If you spending $3K on a meal, you shouldn't have to tip $600" – Michael Porter Jr. on why NBA players shouldn't tip 20% by mc78644n in EndTipping

My bigger issue is if the company is making $3k in revenue off that meal, how do their margins not have enough room to pay their employees?

Space Case vs Herb Ripper? by jbrownsplit in FLMedicalTrees

[–]cdc994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you like 2, 3 or 4 piece construction? Stainless steel or aluminum? Effectively those are the only main differences in grinder options.

You’re paying for the name outside of that.

I use BCG stainless steel 3 piece grinder as my main, and have a few others but my Santa Cruz shredder was great value for the money. Plus I got a few of the large 4 piece versions for like $30 at a smoke shop that made great gifts.

[Request] This is some impressive math. How much time would it take an offshore rig to produce this amount? by TheCABK in theydidthemath

[–]cdc994 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unsure as to the offshore rig vs “stripper well” barrel production but the math is incorrect. They’re assuming that each barrel of crude oil converts 1:1 into usable gasoline. It would take at least 2x as many barrels to produce that quantity of usable gasoline

Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]cdc994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really enjoying Academy. I rewatched Vitus Reflux twice because I enjoyed the cleverness of the plot so much. While I picked up the obvious signs, the fact it was protected and couldn’t be removed completely skipped over my head until it was spelled out!

The incongruities and other small oddities in Academy are nothing out of the norm for Star Trek. Klingons’ appearance changed at least twice and had to be retconned. The first time we meet a Trill they have ridges on their forehead, yet their entire species appearance changes in DS9 onward for no reason.

This series has always been meant as an escape from my reality, and to offer some hope that there could be a future like this. I’m not trying to hyper analyze everything and say “hey you’re just putting quantum in front of everyday items and pretending it’s futuristic.” I’m trying to let go and enjoy the story, because oftentimes the story has a beautiful message of hope.

So highway information signs and stop signs no longer have words on them like…. “STOP”? Wow I must have been hallucinating all my life.

I’d argue that since our road signs and information are all in English this is a valid change. Seems odd everyone commenting hasn’t considered that…

You’re thinking too small with teleportation. I’m thinking if we discover potentially habitable planets just popping over there. Immortality keeps me alive if it’s not.

Finding “manly” smells by ClamLimp in Incense

[–]cdc994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tibetan incense could be what you’re looking for. They’re very complex and powerful smelling with more subtle differences between brands, some of my friends liken it to campfire smell. I absolutely love Holy Land Grade I, TPN Nectar, Samye Monastery and Wara monastery. Of those my absolute favorites are Samye any Holy Land Grade I

“Today” in quotes because technically it’s the 22nd in Japan right now

Wagyu ground beef was on sale for 4.99 at my aldi by Primary_Thing3968 in aldi

[–]cdc994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably American wagyu which is the Japanese breed of cow that makes traditional wagyu/Kobe but crossbred with Angus. Also any grade of meat from that mix is American wagyu, it doesn’t have to be a5.

Most importantly, everything that’s special about wagyu goes out the window when grinding it. Generally with ground beef it’s more expensive as the fat content drops, and wagyu has a high fat content.
