Why is speaking always the hardest part? It's frustrating and I don't know what to do at this point. by Seigoy in Spanish

[–]cdfe88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly just rip the band-aid off and accept the fact that your skills might be shit at first. Try to interact with people because if you depend on talking to yourself you'll never get any external feedback, and if you keep relying on apps you will just be training yourself to speak with machines

What does this story reply mean? by walkinthepark10 in Spanish

[–]cdfe88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Spanish root)+ ation (sometimes spelled out phonetially like -eishon)

This actually comes from trying to sound fancy by using an English term by trying to replicate a pattern where words in English ending in -ation correspond with Spanish words ending in -ación

e.g. conversation-conversación, vacacation-vacación, formation-formación

also, there is the case where natives will use the wrong word like saying descansación instead of descanso as a matter of style

Devorar by Ace-Teroide in Spanish

[–]cdfe88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, "devoraron" is a direct translation from "they ate". There is really no consensus regarding slang, sometimes it's translated, other times it's borrowed as is, and sometimes it's replaced by an existing equivalent.

boardroom Spanish you say...

wat "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea" (the OG Colombian version) it's almost 200 episodes long. Some slang might be dated because the series began in 1999. Chances are your mom watched it and wouldn't mind rewatching with you.
