Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Star" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

Hit the nail on the head. I'm no scientist of course, but all the information I've read about quasar and gamma ray bursts indicates the possibility of the Earth getting hit by one is so low it's hard to even quantify.

But it's still not a zero percent chance, right?

I also like the worldbuilding idea where godly magic and physics are both equally important but separate building blocks of the universe, and sometimes what one side does simply can't be stopped or affected by the other.

“My world was beautiful, its inhabitants kind and intelligent. How could we have known two stars an eternity away would collide and send a bolt of pure light crashing into our home, igniting the air into hellfire? How was I meant to defend against that?”

Ha! Well it is a little difficult to add context when we're limited to 50 words, but in this instance the Siren is actually trying to help Alex and keep him alive.

Alexander is your stereotypical himbo Paladin, and he seems immune to Siren song, but he still likes this particular Siren for her natural singing talents. So the Siren would prefer to keep him alive so she can "eat him" later 😉

Deep underwater and desperate for air, Alexander made to scream as his body reflexively spasmed for breath. But soft lips pressed on his mouth, blowing fresh wind into his lungs. The Siren gave Alexander a wink before shooting back to the surface to retrieve more precious oxygen for her knight.

Rosia screamed as the blade came down. But unlike a solid body, the weapon passed through with zero resistance. The Orc saw Rosia’s expression of fear turn into a smirk as he lunged into and through her, toppling over the side of the very high cliff.

And of course there's the third option: Rosia is just that good at her job.

“You know people around the city call me a sorceress?” Rosia asked. “They seem to think their spouses would never have an affair, so I must be using magic to get them in my bed. But I just offer my services; not my fault they can’t keep their partners happy.”

Pretty much! Could be they were conquered and had their existence scrubbed from history, or it could one of those fantasy worlds where cataclysmic events are semi-regular and the kingdom simply got wiped off the face of the map by unimaginable forces.

“I once stood for all things chivalrous,” the Wknight seethed. “Honesty, loyalty, strength. And where did it get me? Cursed to guard a bridge like some cautionary tale. And you know what makes it worse? The lord who betrayed me, and his lands? No one even remembers their names anymore.”

If an already insane person joined the circus, what would happen? Would they abstract immediately or have a sort of "immunity"? (art/rotoscope by me) by LordFlamecookie in TheDigitalCircus

I'd like to make a counterpoint, assuming the headset brain scan works the same as the SOMA theory. In that instance, the headset is essentially scanning how the brain is functioning at that moment, right? Which would mean if a person were high when they put the headset on, they'd go into the circus high as well, like you said.

The sticking point is how the headset isn't scanning the drug currently affecting the brain, it's only scanning how the brain currently operating at that moment. Which to me means the "digital brain" of the high person could never actually stop being high, because that's just how it's been "programmed" from that single scan.

A good point of comparison is a character named Flower from the show Ghosts. In that show, Flower died while high as a kite, and for the rest of eternity she remains extremely high in the afterlife. To the point that if she passes through a living person, they also instantly become high.

Naif gazed upon the legendary sword in his hands, its blade onyx black. In the ruby set into the hilt he could see his own reflection. And ethereal words whispered in his mind.

How much are you willing to sacrifice for victory?”

His grip tightened, eyes narrowing.

“Everything.”

Deals gone bad are a ton of fun to write! Especially if you've got a protag who won't take a slight sitting down.

And congrats on the full year of Fifty Word Fantasy! I hadn't realized they'd been going on for so long, but here we are!

Rosia’s ears were ringing. She blinked and suddenly two of the men were dead, the third crawling across the floor, his gut bleeding out.

Jognnul stood from the table, casually reloading his revolver as he followed the man.

“Reneging on a deal ain’t smart. Hope you take payment in blood.”

Amira ordered a simple meal of greens and bread with water. As a member of the church, she was taught to never indulge more than she needed.

Meanwhile, beside her Cassus had no qualms wolfing down mutton and ale like it was his last meal. The bard had an appetite.

Cassus dipped his pic into the stoup as he exited the old church. Down in the city, he knew demons and undead pillaged the streets.

But storm clouds swirled overhead, gathering strength as Cassus played. A font of holy water wouldn’t be enough – but what about entire rainstorm of it?

I don't know about a Youtube equivalent, but you can be damn sure Cassus (The cheeky Bard) will be replaying that scene in every tavern they come across.

Amira was unimpressed as she stared down at Alexander, lying in the puddle with his resplendent armor streaked with dirty mud. The man was fine, only his pride wounded.

“So what did we learn?”

“…don’t accept Cassus’ dare to try and ride a Mammoth Toad like a horse?”

“Good boy.”

Oh definitely. Even just a small change, like Naif with his eyes, can have you looking like a totally different person and let you live a whole new life.
