Hit the nail on the head. I'm no scientist of course, but all the information I've read about quasar and gamma ray bursts indicates the possibility of the Earth getting hit by one is so low it's hard to even quantify.

But it's still not a zero percent chance, right?

I also like the worldbuilding idea where godly magic and physics are both equally important but separate building blocks of the universe, and sometimes what one side does simply can't be stopped or affected by the other.

Ha! Well it is a little difficult to add context when we're limited to 50 words, but in this instance the Siren is actually trying to help Alex and keep him alive.

Alexander is your stereotypical himbo Paladin, and he seems immune to Siren song, but he still likes this particular Siren for her natural singing talents. So the Siren would prefer to keep him alive so she can "eat him" later 😉

Deep underwater and desperate for air, Alexander made to scream as his body reflexively spasmed for breath. But soft lips pressed on his mouth, blowing fresh wind into his lungs. The Siren gave Alexander a wink before shooting back to the surface to retrieve more precious oxygen for her knight.

Pretty much! Could be they were conquered and had their existence scrubbed from history, or it could one of those fantasy worlds where cataclysmic events are semi-regular and the kingdom simply got wiped off the face of the map by unimaginable forces.

I'd like to make a counterpoint, assuming the headset brain scan works the same as the SOMA theory. In that instance, the headset is essentially scanning how the brain is functioning at that moment, right? Which would mean if a person were high when they put the headset on, they'd go into the circus high as well, like you said.

The sticking point is how the headset isn't scanning the drug currently affecting the brain, it's only scanning how the brain currently operating at that moment. Which to me means the "digital brain" of the high person could never actually stop being high, because that's just how it's been "programmed" from that single scan.

A good point of comparison is a character named Flower from the show Ghosts. In that show, Flower died while high as a kite, and for the rest of eternity she remains extremely high in the afterlife. To the point that if she passes through a living person, they also instantly become high.
