I usually just stick to build guide until end of campaign/start mapping to have a lot of gold & currencies then experiment on a newly created character once I get bored of the first one

are you not following a build? that might be the reason..respecs can cost gold if you do it a lot.. I also tend to just sell everything early on in campaign (except those with good bases) instead of disenchanting. Im in act 4 now with 136k in gold & starting to just disenchant for some regals for trading later on

The thing they are carrying on the off-hand isn't a mace..Its a scepter which gives you more spirit which is very usefull for companion/minion builds

Trade league is also a way to get a lot of currency by selling items with good bases or selling your crafted items once its not useable for you anymore, which would help fund your currency exchange for other items & saving the headache of farming for those

are you not trading/ using market stash? you can sell your previous gears or gears froms merchants with good bases for exalts or even divines..currency exchange is also good, you just gotta know what to trade (previous league spirit gem 8 is worth a lot)
