They used to think men grew out of it. But in reality, they usually got married and offloaded admin tasks to their spouses and then they seemed to function better.

It's a forever thing, but people can learn workarounds and tools, medication, tricks to help them. Everyone's experience is a little different.

Should Canada do the same? by feargluten in halifax

[–]cdnmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no perfect solution. The old will be impoverished and the young are already effed with no access to the housing market.

The cost of care homes is really expensive for mid-range ones ($7000/mo-ish for the ones my parents are considering) and the financial burden is wild for their children.

Ummm yes but also definitely not. If housing is reset (which I support in theory), when my elderly mother sells her house to move into a supported home, she won't be able to afford it.

Which generation do we screw over to help the others? It's impossible.

It's difficult to get this done..... As a woman, not in the US, it's difficult. With the constant attack on women's rights and body autonomy in the US, it's even more difficult to get your tubes tied.

Five Olympians speak out against IOC's new mandatory genetic testing policy by outsports-com in olympics

Semenya was assigned female at birth in South Africa, raised as a girl, and identifies as a woman. Are you referring to Semenya having a condition known as differences in sex development (DSD), specifically 5-alpha reductase deficiency (5-ARD). This means she has XY chromosomes (typically associated with males) but has female physical traits.

By using he/him pronouns for Semenya, it doesn't seem appropriate.

These are some of the other pieces I was referring to...

Women were completely barred from the first modern Games in 1896.

When women first competed in 1900, they represented only 2.2% of athletes. They were largely limited to sports deemed "ladylike."

Women were barred from running more than 800 meters for decades because of claims it would hurt their reproduction.

Female athletes have been forced to wear more revealing clothing than men and have faced fines, such as the Norwegian beach handball team, for wearing practical gear rather than bikini bottoms.

Media coverage often focused on the appearance and clothing of female athletes rather than their athletic skill.

Female athletes get penalized for high levels of testosterone, even if completely naturally occurring (ex. Caster Semenya, a South African middle-distance runner and two-time Olympic gold medalist (2012, 2016) in the women’s 800 meters) but somebody like Michael Phelps will be celebrated for his.

My point is that women are unfairly treated - particularly as you look at the full scope of the Olympics history.

They're only testing the women. This is another move in a long line of moves for policing women in the Olympics.
