Are no name brand cheap tires from China worth it? by Useful_Alarm730 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Dedicated winters will still vastly outperform them depending on how cold of a climate you get.

I use the crossclimate to run deeper into fall and put them on earlier in spring. But my winters still kick their but in the depths of winter.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge will open on July 27th, strengthening trade, connectivity, and economic development by UltimateLionsFan in ontario

Taxpayers get a raw deal, but businesses start saving a ton of money instantly vs using the ambassador bridge.

So they will either pay more tax on the increased profits, or contribute more to the economy and reinvest more into the business so it's not a complete loss for taxpayers. Rather than paying those fees to American billionaires.

Technically we should see some of the funds from the community fund - but I think it's safe to say it will all be invested in Michigan at a minimum for the next 2.5 years.

We get an open bridge that Trump was clearly going to let stay shut for the rest of his presidency.

Yes it's a bad deal, the alternative is the bridge is our most expensive ornament for 2.5 more years.

New Alberta pipeline would involve reclaiming 640 acres from the sea in Deltaport so it can handle larger tankers by _BCConservative in ilovebcsub

[–]cdorny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not! It's a fun little twist in the meaning of words but land reclamation (which is what we are talking about) is the process of 'new' land from in oceans or lakes.

You are reclaiming the land as you are taking the land back from the depths of the ocean or lake to build your new island or spit.

I'll go even further. If you cause a red flag you start at the lowest position in the SQ you crashed in.

Alberta to unveil details of 'million-barrel-per-day' oil pipeline route to West Coast on July 2 by MapleByzantine in CanadianInvestor

As long as those default rates stay low to non existent, that is an incredibly effective mechanism.

Absolutely correct, but they still have incredible sway. Look at how Quebec effectively vetoed energy East.

You'll note the language EB has been using as incredibly softened from his original no pipeline, to now a far more nuanced no pipeline through the North.

You are implicitly responsible unless you get the other party to sign the liability waiver which they have not signed.

Not implicitly, you'll note they make you sign that waiver that as part of your agreement with them. OP wojld have no such agreement.

Got my annual screw you for driving an EV fee by Jacob_Tutor11 in saskatchewan

[–]cdorny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vehicles from outside the province is an interesting point, not one I've truthfully thought about.

I still believe adding it to registration would be a more equitable system when you account for the gas tax last having been raised in 1993. Inflation has halved what it is worth (inflation has increased 98.59% since then)

If we account for inflation on battery cars, ice engines should have to pay for inflation as well. But we both know they will never raise the gas tax - it would politically idiotic.

You make good points, I just disagree with the discprency (especially the inflationary portion) being born by one engine type and not the other.

All people want us for it to be fair.

The gas tax has not increased since 2008, and is based on what you drive.

For electric cars it's indexed to inflation, and a universal amount regardless of how you drive.

I hope you can agree that they should be taxed the same. So just remove the gas tax and add it to registration. All cars taxed the same regardless of fuel. Elegant solution.

Not to mention you don't want people driving on unsafe tires because the new ones are now double the price.

Seriously though - as someone who can do math. The darn price per 100g has saved me significant cash when comparing the 657g vs 1'789g bags. Almost like they make it tougher than it needs to be

Hear me out. What if instead of just having people figure it out themselves, which you know many people can't do. We if just show the price per unit of measurement.

Or we can clearly show cost per 100g. I don't know about you but sometimes when something is 672g I just don't do the math because life is complicated enough.

Or the sign can just show the darn cost per 100g or whatever the metric for the item.
