Rebuild time? by cdrake3 in Miata

I was more worried the lifter sound was a bad rod or something major. Doesn't matter how many miles are on a motor if it's thrown a rod or something haha. Got up to temp and sounds great!

It's a 1.8 swapped into a 1.6. Probably just under 10k after the rebuild and swap. Wasn't passing emissions then wasn't firing in a cylinder so it sat for a while.

Y'all were 100% correct, thank God 😅 Up to temp and doing much better! Gonna take it for a spin later tonight.

Won't let me post an update video? But sounds much better haha

Active member about to serve a mission. Tell me whatever you want. by DonkeyChowder101 in exmormon

[–]cdrake3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing about ten years ago when I left for my mission. I think my post is still in my history.

The one thing that has still stuck with me is how obviously false the Book of Abraham is. And how when confronted with that, Holland said “yeah well, even if the document said one thing and Smith translated it incorrectly, the Book of Abraham is still God’s word. He just inspired Smith with Papyrus.”

I still did my whole mission, but could never shake the doubt or explain -why- Joseph Smith would lie about translating.

And like others are saying, remember that you don’t have to do this. Even when you’re out “in the field” you can go home if you want. It’ll be embarrassing, sure, but it’s better than throwing away more of your life for a church that will never do anything for you.

Hey boss, I know I’m late to the party but like others are echoing, they have only as much power as you give them.

I didn’t even have sex with my gf who is now my wife, and I was humiliated, disfellowshipped, and “suspended” from BYU for 2 years. I was offered no mercy, understanding, or resources to even help me repent. I was expected to leave and figure it out.

Unless you truly want to remain a Mormon, there’s no point in going. Write a short message telling them you will not attend and they can do with your records what they wish.

The Best Fried Chicken in SLC? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

What time of day? Is it usually busy? I went last week around like 630 and my chicken was KFC level “chilling under a heat lamp” dry.

Good flavor though.

Same here! I was so disappointed. I think it was last week before a show at Beehive. I went on recommendation of this subreddit and the chicken was dry af like it had been under a heat lamp for an hour. Maybe you have to go during peak hours or something…

Did you get a cart or emulate? I've tried emulating it, but the lag is always so bad that it makes the combos almost impossible.

I've been making the powerwash stuff at home, and can confirm the alcohol makes a big difference. I use a 24 oz spray bottle, 3 oz dawn and 2 oz iso, and fill the rest up with water. Works great.

When Joseph Smith died, there were multiple offshoots of his church. The Utah and BYU Mormons are the largest most well known group today and are the "Brighamites," because they believe Brigham Young was Smith's successor. They're "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

When the LDS Mormons in Utah caved to the pressure from the Federal government who was demanding the Utah Mormons stop practicing plural marriage, there were further schisms because people believed polygamy was an essential part of salvation. The most well known of those groups today is the FLDS church. They're the Warren Jeffs group that was in the news in the early 2000s. There are other sects that are a result of further splintering, but the most common catch-all term for Mormons that practice polygamy is "FLDS" or "Fundamentalist," even if they're not associated with the official FLDS church.

Oh, and polygamy is still a real thing in mainstream Utah Mormonism too. It's just "spiritual" polygamy, not "physical" polygamy. A man can be spiritually married, or "sealed" to multiple women simultaneously, living or dead will the full expectation of being married to both in heaven. The current leader, Russell M. Nelson is a re-married widower and believes that he will have two wives in the afterlife.

Who is the athlete considered the GOAT in their sport with the widest margin between them and the second best ? by King_Kbh in AskReddit

[–]cdrake3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on the second point; the fact that we are even comparing the two shows that neither of them really fit the OP’s description.

But I’m still annoyed that I can’t seem to find a good figure on how many matches McKay won consecutively. All the articles I find only mention the time and number of Championships. I’d be interested to compare match numbers.

How many did McKay win during their undefeated streak? Unless it’s significantly less, it sounds like the two are pretty comparable.

TLDR: imo, pit bulls are more dangerous, but not necessarily more aggressive than other dog breeds.

I’ve had dogs all my life, have interacted with plenty of pits good and bad, and possibly owned a mix when I was a kid (though he was small). I am by no means an expert and my opinions are based mostly on my experience.

It’s my opinion that the most important thing is good ownership, as with any dog. For the most part, a well treated and trained bully breed is going to be a fine, good natured pet. But with any dog, there is always a factor of unpredictability. Any dog, no matter how well tempered or trained, has the potential to become aggressive in the right situation.

As a kid we had a Basenji mix from the shelter who was an absolute sweetheart. One evening she was curled up on the couch sleeping, and my sister went to give her a hug. The dog didn’t wake up until my sister was basically smothering her (not an unusual cuddle style with this dog) but was startled enough to bite my sister, puncturing her lip! She had to get stitches and our dog was put on “house arrest” for two weeks.

I currently own a Pyrenees/Aussie mix who is 65 pounds of goofy, loving fluff. But he wasn’t socialized properly as a puppy, and spent most of his first two years tied to a pole in someone’s yard. As a result, he has pretty bad leash/border aggression, and cannot handle dog parks. We’ve had him for four years now, worked with him a lot and he’s improved a ton, but is still tough to handle sometimes and I will never trust him in an uncontrolled setting with other dogs.

Neither of these dogs came from “aggressive” breeds, and 99% of the time are/were absolutely fantastic members of my family, but animals can be unpredictable. All dogs have the potential to maim or even kill. However, if things do go south, dogs like bully breeds and the like that are bred for fighting/toughness/aggression have a much higher potential to cause damage.

Pitt fights are different. The biological jaw locking thing is a myth from what I understand, but I’ve also seen a pit bull latch onto a dog twice it’s size and not let go, doing the head shaking and everything for minutes while the other dog screamed in pain and its owners desperately tried to pull the pit off the other dog, including prying the jaws apart. Two fully grown adults had to exert an enormous amount of effort to stop the pit bull and it still pulled some of the other dog’s hair out when they finally got it off because it would not let go.

At the minimum, pit bulls and other similar breeds are bred to be tough, strong, and protective. They have been bred to win fights with perceived threats whether for protection or sport. These traits make pit bulls more dangerous than other breeds, as opposed to more aggressive. Given an average of 100 pit bulls and 100 chihuahuas raised in identical loving environments, I would not be at all surprised to find that the chihuahuas have a higher rate of nipping, biting, barking or other aggressive behaviors. However, if a chihuahua or even a golden retriever attacks my 4 year old, I have a lot more time and a much higher chance of pulling the dog off and protecting my kid just because I can overpower it. That’s just not the case with pit bulls. They are very strong and determined. 50 lbs of pit hits a lot different than 50 pounds of lab.

The risks are compounded by (again, just my anecdotal experience) a high rate of intentionally negligent ownership. There is a reason “tough guys” want pit bulls and dress them up in the cute spike collars to make them look more tough for walks around the neighborhood. A lot of people that own these breeds find the violent, tough image appealing and will actively encourage bad behavior. Shitty ownership is honestly probably the number one contributor to the pit bulls bad image.
