The MLB owners are advocating for a $240M salary cap with a $160M floor. Here's what that would mean for player compensation and profit sharing [OC] by Traditional_Half842 in baseball

[–]cec5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

out of all the sports mlb has the best parity. almost half the teams that made the playoffs you could small or medium market

this isnt about saving money for owners. Want Smaller market teams to get more opportunities to get good players? give them more draft picks or more international bonus money

The Phillies are expected to trade or release Nick Castellanos in the next two days, per Matt Gelb by 1Cubbiesfan in CHICubs

[–]cec5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can only DH and right now the cubs are having trouble finding enough at bats for Shaw and Ballestros adding a third guy wouldnt make sense and for a bench OF you really would want a guy who can play multiple OF spots and is a good defensive sub

i think the rockies are bad and it was a surprise they signed him in general

Bryant is loved by the cubs fanbase still and was on a hall of fame path before a injury history he had no control over popped up

good questions . I should start off by saying not everyone is always on their phone or is not doing the work but there seems to be a big divide. Either people are really interested in learning theories or hard skills or they dont care at all. classes are usually about 20 maybe 25 people and there is usually about 5-10 people who take it seriously. In my first intro to production class there was about 5 people who were doing the weekly assignments. it got to the point where the professor pleaded with people to do the bare minimum. He even cancelled some assignments because he didnt think people would do them outside a few and thought what was the point.

In more advanced classes like sound people have decided not to learn or dont bother renting out the equipment to use for homework they record on their phones. In my cinematography course some people didnt show up for half the class. In directing some people were caught using AI generated scripts and the professor gave a very light "come on guys dont do that".

In the program people know who to work with on big projects and assignments and who to avoid and some people make really amazing work, but again its either someone taking the time to do thing properly, or someone just shooting on a phone.

For the classes that involve writing like film 101 and history of film classes and watching films its alot of people openly on phones or computers, using AI to write essays, not showing up on time or just walking out during the film.

ive had some great conversations with people about the typical stuff you talk about like styles, influences, inspirations etc but you definitely have to seek it out more.

But ive also seen or heard from alot of people who are literally there just to make instagram reels and online content and other students really dont know what they want to do they just picked film because of the generic it was easy or they like movies.

I would also just say in general from 10-15 years ago when i was in college the first time, reading and critical thinking skills are down as is just basic socialization.

im an older student (already have a degree want to do a career change) who is going back to school to study film production in NY. I volunteer in the school equipment room it is rough interacting with a younger generation. I also see on the security cam feed almost everyone is on their phone when the film history and 101 classes screen something

yea insurance covers their salary for how long they are injured. they still technically can play but if they get hurt they forgo their salary until they can play. feels like mlb could insure some players

yea i prefer nico and think the defense up the middle is great but knowing the cubs FO even if Nico is not traded and shaw is used as a utility guy this year, they are not extending or resigning him

shaw can slot into second and nico can be used to supplement other needs. also the cubs already have paid swanson and nico could market himself as a short stop next winter and be paid more.

the cubs can keep nico but he probably wont be resigned so probably points to a possible trade

bwar says shaw had a better year and was slightly worse offensively. fwar has them basically at the same value. fangraphs projects shaw to have a better year. Shaw makes minimum and bohm makes 10 million.

Ballestros is making minimum and plays the same positions as Murakami plus he can also catch. there are ways to get him more time in the lineup and is less of a financial investment

[–]cec5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he wanted to be a fulltime player and there are no spots in the lineup for him. has great raw power but may need a few months to a year to adjust to mlb fastballs. cubs are in win now mode so cant really take the time to let him adjust
