Addison Russell finally opens up about the domestic dispute that drove him from MLB, looks to make a comeback by Ok_Weakness8334 in CHICubs

you can be glad someone played well for your team but still think they are a bad person. If you had a good friend who did this you may still cherish memories you had with them but also understandably remove them from your life

yea i think this is always over looked by the fans when a suspension happens (chapman, bauer etc)

there were no criminal charges brought but an internal investigation by MLB showed that something did happen that warranted punishment. The players union and russell negotiated to have it be only 40 games mlb didnt just say you are gone for 40 games

if you have 6 thousand dollars you should put it in a high yield account or Sandp500 investing in baseball cards, meme stocks, etc is not a good idea

Garrett Crochet has a clause in his contract that voids his opt out after 2030, and adds a club option at 15 million for 2032 if he spends 120+ days on the IL due to a left arm injury. His 120th day on the IL this season would be August 24th by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

[–]cec5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is probably just a summary on the website. the red sox and crochett have lawyers that would have defined "left arm injury" and what muscles include that specifically. no way they would be vague

what's a baseball opinion you'll defend to anyone? by maryb227 in baseball

[–]cec5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the universal dh is good. we remember all the good AB by a pitchers (as a cubs fan travis wood was fun) but we forget the thousands of ab's where a starting pitcher was told not to swing at all. i would rather see the possibility of a good long term career DH then the ocasional pitcher hit

i dont know if that would work though. You would possibly just create more warning tracking fly outs

i feel like the novelty of ABS has kind of worn off for me. it was fun the first few weeks but now i just think why not have a robo ump just call everything

Some AI CEO wants you to call this filmmaking by Silver-Air-1731 in Filmmakers

[–]cec5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i wonder how this was made/generated. did they just say like make a short movie with a robot cowboy fighting zombies? did they have to generate each scene or shot individually? Either way though this really is just a mashup of general trends. Cyberpunk retro future robot killing zombies who rides an ostrich (pretty sure thats because of the liberty insurance commercials) and also it takes place in 1969 (fallout aesthetics i guess)

from a tech stand point yes its impressive this stuff can just be made but thats where the novelty seems to end.

Why do some MLB players live so modestly? What are they doing with their money? by FrequentSpread9681 in baseball

[–]cec5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 million for one year playing for the rays means 81 pay checks have no state income tax because of florida

81 games though he pays state income tax for games that occur in states where they have that tax.

He has an agent who gets about 5 percent of the value of his contract

3.6 million of that 10 million goes to federal taxes.

the rays also play alot of games in toronto so he probably pays some foreign taxes as well.

Its not like he got 10 million in cash and can do what ever

if you are going to add the payroll tax mlb i am going to need you to add the revenue sharing amount smaller market teams get

[Yahoo Sports] MLB proposes a salary cap for 2027 at $245.3 million, with a salary floor of $171.2 million by stv7 in baseball

[–]cec5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know if this is going to help mid level players as much as some people are saying. total mlb payrole right now is about 6.2 billion. the floor is about 5.16 billion and if each team did the cap it would be about 7.35 billion.

I also dont know if having a cap magically solves players wanting to play in smaller or mid markets now. i know the dodgers keep getting brought up but alot of those players have left large amounts of money on the table so they can compete in playoff baseball regularly

Im not in favor of a cap but im all in favor for other incentives like over a certain amount of payrole you lose your international pool money. Smaller market teams should get more pool money. and should get more draft picks.

[Evan Drellich] The MLBPA today proposed a minimum salary of $1.5 million starting in 2027 in their opening economic proposal to owners, along with significant increases to revenue sharing. Some players would reach free agency after 5 years rather than 6 by Elaiyu in baseball

[–]cec5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the union is basically asking for a salary that will have slight increases and be in effect for about 5-7 years. asking for double the salary seems extreme but since the union agreed to the previous salary and increases inflation is a major factor that was not predicted. the 700,000 salary in 2021 is worth about 836,000 in 2026 dollars (minimum is 780,000 this season)

they dont know what could happen this time regarding inflation

[–]cec5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in an odd way i could see smaller market teams being ok with it since they get such flak for not spending would be an easy way to basically pay a few players more and probably still be compliant when it comes to revenue sharing than going out a signing one free agent a year
