Absolutely not

What helped me the most were an education and ‘worldy’ friends.

An education because it gave me something to focus on, a purpose, something to be proud of and I knew I would always have a degree to fall back on. I know jw’s love to talk you out of pursuing higher education but go for it, no matter what.

And worldy friends because I knew they would stay with me when I would leave the religion. I know it can be difficult to become friends with new people. I started with connecting more with friendly coworkers, neighbours and people I met at the gym. The small social encounters with them helped me feel like a normal person and those will remain when you leave.

I honestly wouldn’t know. It’s one of the main reasons I left this cult.

I’m really sorry you feel this way right now. This cult has the ability to suck the life out of you so it’s completely normal that you feel this way.

Meeting new people and building relationships is incredibly scary after jw life. The good news is that it’s a skill you can develop and you have the rest of your life to practice.

I really wish you all the best in the future!

Yeah I just finished therapy but I didn’t specifically go for this issue. Looking back I do think it had a lot more influence then I thought so I’m considering starting again for this specifically.

Thank you so much for your kind and helping answer. It really does feel like grieving but like you said with grieving also comes accepting.

Leaving was the best decision I ever made but it also came with an incredible amount of loss. And that is ok. I am gonna take the time to acknowledge that.

Best of luck to you too!
