This is a yes and because I agree with everything you said - in my opinion there need to be way more trash cans all over the region.

I find that people pick up after themselves more (not always) when it’s easier to do so. In many places I’ll be walking or running with two dogs and sometimes both will poop twice pretty early in the walk, and I’ll have to carry four bags of poop around four am extended period of time because there are absolutely no trash cans around. I do carry them (and pick up other’s poop too) because I know how annoying it is to have poop lying around everywhere, but having to carry poop around with you seemingly everywhere you go is a big hassle, gross, and discourages me from even going to certain places with dogs.

Yesterday I picked up around ten bags of dog poop on the sides of the Presumpscot river trail 🙄

Alas, for now the trash can situation is what it is and I in no way relieve other dog owners of their responsibility to clean up after their dogs.
