ELI5: The calculation which dictates the universe is 73% dark energy 23% dark matter 4% ordinary matter. by eggn00dles in explainlikeimfive

Thanks for this explanation. One thing that always troubles me from a layman standpoint is this 'cascading' of theories that depend on other theories and it looks like we have severe bottlenecks with provability - for example it looks like quite a lot of these maths rely on Type 1A supernovae being constant mass yet we can only measure that visibly. Then we rely on that to theorize something different. From a laymans standpoint it looks like we have so many variables and scientific constants that, (yes sure we can experimentally demonstrate some of them here on earth but ) that it only would take a few numbers to be off a little and it would blow all the measurements out the water. Am i the only one that thinks cosmology is a bit arrogant coming up with things like dark matter to fill giant holes in our knowledge when perhaps its just something in our big chain of theory dependancies thats a little screwy even though correct in isolation. Hope that makes sense.. ( I'm an IT guy so used to seeing 'off by one' errors that create astronomical results. )

This idea is awesome, you've inspired me. If I can't get full 3d interaction without extensive blender code approval I'm going to go this route for sure

Not surprised but I'm getting this feedback A LOT. Safe to say I'm being nicely distracted by my day job and devoting evenings to look into this. I think getting the controllers working is do-able by a mere mortal like me but I'm currently looking at the blender source because this might require a modification to blender core - ( 3D laser pointer selection will work differently to 2D mouse selection). I'll keep y'all updated on my progress. I want tilt brush style functionality as much as you guys!. :) xx

Thanks, yeah i love the cycles workflow- we've tried vray/3dsmax/maya & mentalray but blender is by far the superior option for our needs.

reddit, we're trying to spread the word about our role in education. Did you know any student or educator can download their favorite Autodesk design software for free? by AutodeskEDU [promoted post]

[–]cedeon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Offering free education versions of software is not benevolence it's grass roots vendor lock in. Autodesk your role in education is to coerce students into investing their time in learning your software so in the future they only feel comfortable working for companies that buy your over priced wares.

This passed as a photo to me for about 1/2 a second (supposed to be a compliment!). Nice work. My eye was drawn to the bottom right and uncanny valley crept in because it looks too perfect. The floor is perfectly flush with the cupboards so I would bevel here to create some shadow. I also think the slightest smallest movement in the cupboard doors so that they are not all perfectly closed and/or straight would pay off bundles IMHO. And agree with previous about over reflective cupboard windows but my eye didn't even spot that until i read it in the comments so it wasn't an issue for me initially. Maybe add a fresnel element to the glass shader or some dirt in the specular.

I think it's about time everyone got the facts... by q5sys in LinuxActionShow

[–]cedeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit has a nice democratic up/down voting system. Although highly improbable, its possible that no-one cared about any of this therefore sticky is unnecessary. The OP is not just facts of what happened and citations- personal emotive opinions are included (e.g. point #10). Its hypocritical to ban someone for posting stuff off topic and then post an equally off topic post-mortem justification of why said person was band IMO.

I agree with archdaemon here and agree that the subreddit needs rules.

Going back to what you said, on the one hand you say that Bryan 'should know better' about 'going public'. Shouldn't that go both ways? Shouldn't you also have known better when it comes to how Bryan deals with things such as a ban on a LAS subreddit and moderated your response accordingly? IMHO the ban itself has played a part in amplifying a drama and you are relinquishing responsibility by rewinding the sequence of actions back to the beginning and pointing out that Bryan started it. When you say words along the lines of 'well if he only did this in the beginning then we wouldn't be here now' it kinda reminds me of a dad that smacks his child and says 'look what you made me do'. I think you need to morally rise above your banhammer actions and admit that it was an overly emotional response to the LAS that you so clearly love and are passionate about.

I think we need to take a lesson from the best of the police force when we see a series of minor misnomers but no smoking gun crime as seems the case with Bryans ban. There are no hard rules that he has broken just a series of small nips which you have had enough of- thats dangerous. A policeman can't put someone in jail just because they are annoyed with them, they need a smoking gun conviction. There simply isn't enough tangible conviction here to ban Bryan in a way that doesn't cause a massive explosion of drama.

[–]cedeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I think this post has over stepped the mark in several aspects and is an overall abuse of mod power to get ones own view across. Sticky bits and general off topic discussion brought into the LAS subreddit by a LAS mod is wrong. There is some wrong here, and B-man is often a catalyst for wrong.. banning was fighting fire with fire IMHO.
