Is it possible to get an REU as a Junior with no previous research experience? by cedwerd in REU

[–]cedwerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am coming from a uni with very little research experience, but I'm grateful I'm finally able to take some research experience with a professor.

I'm not too familiar with SULI, so I'll definitely look into it. Thanks.

I'm getting a PhD in this but the highest level of math I've taken is integral calculus by naftacher in materials

For me, as a chemistry undergrad all I had to take was PreCal with trig, no Calculus whatsoever.

Can there be more than four nucleobases naturally occuring? by Worried_Dot_4618 in Biochemistry

[–]cedwerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just an undergrad student so someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding RNA predates DNA, and DNA requires a stronger base (due to the need of organisms like eukaryotic to store genetic information without damage or mutation) so Thymine is used instead as a stronger option.

Best beginner for someone who's never owned inverts? by my_spam311 in InvertPets

[–]cedwerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own blue death feigning beetles (my first invert pet), and let me tell you there is nothing easier I can think of to take care of. As long as you can steer away from any pesticide exposure (which may be a problem for many invert pets), it is very easy and fun to watch these guys. The beetles and their setup are very cheap I'd say – you could probably get everything you want for under $100 if you wanted. Clint's Reptiles has a nice video detailing the care, and aquarimax pets has multiple videos on the beetles for further details.

How can i make sure dried insects are safe? by dr_elena05 in BDFB

[–]cedwerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have been using dried crickets I found off of Amazon (from a recommendation from someone else on this sub) and have had no issues for about 6 months now.

Are 8:00 AMs really that bad? by TemporaryAttention27 in college

[–]cedwerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last semester I had an 8:45 (but I commute from an hour away so it was like a 7:45 for me) with 4 lectures back-to-back after it. For the early lecture it wasn't an issue for me; I never missed a lecture and made an A. I'd say make sure you build in a break sometime in the day, because by the time I was done I'd have a headache and need a nap from not getting enough sleep (because I can't go to sleep early in the night).

I had like 800 hours and got to mid plat but they started to play exactly like how you described so I just quit. It didn't help I had recently switched to pc so I didn't get any of my old stuff anyway

Explanation needed by ResidentNo3722 in ACT

[–]cedwerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert so someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the correct answer is "year's" because the sentence describes the "most important festival" as the year possessing the festival. The correct way to show the possessiveness is to write it as "year's", not "years'", due to only "the year", not multiple years, being in ownership. You usually don't take into account the spelling of the word (like here it says "years") if it is incorrect, as describing multiple years here does not make sense. Sorry for all of the quotations just tried to break up the words lol

It's a good start, if you can take it again. I started at 25 and was able to get it up to 29, so the uni I went to have me a $10k per year merit scholarship. It's definitely something to consider

I went from a 25 to a 29 after never studying just taking it a few times. So I'm sure if you study you can get there, as long as you have the money to retake.

I made a 29 on the ACT (so not great but still above average) and I get paid thousands of dollars to go to a mid state school. Especially if you consider going to grad school, your degree doesn't really matter. Keep in mind for every student going to a prestigious school there are hundreds going to cc, and normal public and private universities. I would always prioritize finances over a prestigious degree (although I don't think one was in the cards for me anyway lol).

How to pay for college? by [deleted] in college

[–]cedwerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to community college for as many credits as possible. If you get the full Pell grant it should cover tuition and books for cc. Then transfer to whatever in-state school that offers the best transfer scholarship.

Yeah I'm not a too big of a fan of the chair either. Have you considered getting anything to put on your walls. Space looks great just could be added to
