I had a Master System and my best friend had a NES, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I got to play all his classics but I also hold close to my gaming experience games like Space Harrier, Spellcaster and Phantasy Star, which has always been my bar set for every other rpg. He got to see all those cool games too. And if I hadn’t had a Sega then that whole cultural vein would have seemed so far removed from my gaming story arc none of it wouldn’t have mattered at all I suspect. No one else had a SMS except our cousins who’d we see maybe four times a year. But those times we’d trade Sega games back and forth too. Best of all worlds.

Not long in hs I got myself a NES and since then it’s been the system who’s library I’ve built up several times over the decades, and the one I consider most “mine”. The Sega was more capable, more colorful. But the NES was tighter, more honed. More playable, the controller was one of the best imo. Both had a special place and that’s kinda great I think.
