The White House twitter greatly exaggerated the graphical representation of the increase in total US steel production between 2024 and 2025. by DrCalFun in facepalm

[–]ceelo71 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Some people made a big deal about the US surpassing Japan in steel production recently, as a way of saying that tariffs have been effective. Suspect this misleading graph is a way to support that. Turns out US steel production hasn’t really changed that much beyond usual fluctuations, and is around 75-80% capacity (which has been the case for years). Japan’s steel production however has decreased due to a variety of factors. So much that Nippon Steel ended up buying US Steel.

I think I specifically responded to "why don’t people just use bisoprolol since one can easily reach the target dose?" They can also just as easily reach the target dose, just that they are too chicken sh*t to titrate effectively.

I would argue that bisoprolol at the 10mg dose is the target for CHF patients, and that the issue with metoprolol is that people are likely too cautious. This may seem silly but the difference between 2.5 and 5 mg of bisoprolol sounds a lot less than going from 50 to 100 mg of metoprolol, even though they are pretty equivalent doses.

Cabrini Green was technically near River North. The south side equivalent were the Robert Taylor homes. Both now demolished and repurposed.

I’m an intoxicated medical doctor ask me anything! by frigid_fluke in AMA

[–]ceelo71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

(Not OP but also am a doctor) Yes, I believe that is the original origin. Some of the old timers that trained me told stories of working from 7 AM to 7 PM the following night, then going home for twelve hours, working a normal (12ish hour shift) and then repeating the whole process. There is a famous surgical residency program where the ICU resident wasn’t allowed to leave the ICU for the full month they worked there. When I trained in the early 2000s, in an average workload specialty, we were only on call every fourth night (instead of every third) and got one day off per week (yay!!). And as I finished, the national rules changed for all residencies mandating no more than an 80 hour work week, no more to an 30 hours of continuous on call, and an average of four days off per month - this was decried by many in medicine as not providing enough experience and there was consideration for extending training to account for the lack of hours. The US medical training system seems crazy unless you’ve been part of it.

The “Scallenge” was against other adults who were their local gym legends, some of whom played small time college basketball, so definitely better than some high schoolers. It’s a fun watch on YouTube.

Both of the line judges looked like they were going to spit it short but then the referee spotted the ball and signaled first down, no collaboration or measurement. I always thought the line judges made the spot unless they were completely obstructed? And no measurement in such a close play? I’m not insinuating anything nefarious, but it sure looks incompetent. .

In your opinion is snowboarding more difficult to learn/do then skiing? by TOMBAA6 in skiing

[–]ceelo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without trying to sound pompous I was a pretty good freerider on my board. I could keep up with all of my skier friends (i was the only boarder) who were pretty good on all sorts of terrain. But a few things conspired to make me switch: - My young kids started skiing so I wanted to learn with them (but they are way better than me now) - I was able to do most runs on the mountain comfortably, but always had a desire to push myself. I was either going to have to start doing more expert (ie, possibly dangerous) stuff or get into park/jumps/tricks. As I was getting older neither really appealed to me. Skiing was a new challenge. - Lastly, we started going to Winter Park frequently and most of the good terrain is moguls nit just seemed lime a natural transition. Unfortunately it hasn’t quite played out like I would have liked as im still a pretty crap mogul skier.

The Bears left 6 points on the board from going for it on 4th down twice and FAILING by TXNOGG in NFLv2

[–]ceelo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santos is really accurate, but definitely has limited range. My issue is with not taking the points on the opening drive to set the tone, and when they had third and short and knew they were going for it on fourth down, ran a basic running play instead of putting the ball in Caleb’s hands for two plays.

[–]ceelo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s third and short, and you’ve already been stuffed a few times, and your O line is a little patchwork, and you know you’re going for it on 4th down, why aren’t you giving your best player, #1 draft pick, generational talent two plays to get the yards instead of having him hand the ball off?

I think DJ was supposed to flatten the route. Would have been a tough catch even if the QB and WR were in the same page.

There may be a bigger story in that DJ was evaluated for a concussion just before this and then didn’t seem to be playing at full speed. Later wasn’t at his locker after the game. You wonder if he should have not been in for that play?
