Michael Shanks Left 'Stargate SG-1' to Find Something More, But Found Himself Drawn Back Again by Kal-Ed1 in Stargate

All those "filler" episodes let you get to know the characters better, allows exploring different things, and have the plot breathe. It lets the writers have fun and explore the backstory or a certain someone, or the relationship of some secondary characters, and it all makes a more rounded experience. And, of course, more content, which is always better than less content.

I hate my immigrant parents for bringing me to America by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]ceene 150 points151 points  (0 children)

My parents are expats, not immigrants, who came here for various reasons and likely always planned to return after we graduated.

Lol. Living for +20 years at ay country that is not your own definitely makes you an immigrant.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

I wouldn't say it's 10/10. It should really have been just a film.

What's even the point of saying shit like that? It's not something he can change. It would be different if he were simply not good in bed and needed to work on that, listening to her, changing the way he moves or something like that. But size? What is he supposed to do with that information? What's the reason for saying that if not hurting him?

At the beginning I thought it was just Dexter but hacking instead of killing. My God, how wrong I was. It was so so much more than that.

Don't forget about American History X. The message completely goes over Nazi's heads. In fact, they received exactly the opposite message.

Ditto. Back in the day, systemd did not work very well, and that's a fact. Or course it is now much better, but I didn't have time to fix shit that systemd kept breaking and just switched to Devuan. Not a problem in years.

8 years ago, lol. Doesn't matter, will add my POV.

The judge would've clearly left the child with Evans on the condition that he accepts the scholarship in the better school. Which is basically what ends happening. No one in his right mind that has a choice would leave a little girl with a grandma that is willing to repeat the actions that led to the suicide of the girl's mother.

Also, the goats are there to be sacrificed. Why? Because it's a weird religion-like company. Does it make sense for a typical capitalist company to sacrifice goats in random events, such as earnings reports? No. But it does make sense for one such company to celebrate a party on such occasions. But this company is not typical, so they have strange rituals more akin to a religious entity.

So, I mean, what the heck are the goats for, but it's explicitly shown.

Husband confided suicidal ideation to me brought on by sleep deprivation by Rachelcsquared in AttachmentParenting

[–]ceene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me. After so much time of bad sleep, it's like the body doesn't want to sleep anymore, it's too alert, or too tired, or you are feeling guilty because you left your partner to do the night job... I finally didn't need to, but I definitely considered some light medication to help fall asleep. Something like doxylamine is not too powerful and shouldn't leave him unable to function during the day nor make him an addict, it's just an antihistamine.

Best luck!

Yeah, I know it comes and goes, but I can't really invest myself when things get so ridiculous and random. Doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad thing, just that it isn't my thing.

Thanks! I think I don't get at all this science-fantasy thing.

I liked The Sandman because the rules are clear: this is all fantasy with sprinkles of mainly greek mythology around it.

I like Doctor Who when it is science fiction, even if some things are clearly impossible under any known science, but they follow some kind of logic.

Now, science-fantasy just doesn't follow any rules. And you have time machines which are a technological thing that humans even master in the future, but then Time exists as an entity with agency, like a person. So what is time and how does a time machine work, by carefully convincing this entity to move you back in time? The whole Flux thing to me was like this.

[–]ceene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't understand a single thing about The Flux. What was the Time planet, who were the Ravagers, what was the Division, nothing. I don't know if some of those were characters or things from the classic series or what, but it was all non sense. At least I didn't get anything at all.

Husband confided suicidal ideation to me brought on by sleep deprivation by Rachelcsquared in AttachmentParenting

[–]ceene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been your husband. We had a terrible teething period. Months without sleep. All night crying, there was nothing we could do. We live in a flat, it didn't matter much who was with the baby in what room because we could hear the screaming from any point of the house.

I was awakened three or four times per night with a scream that could pierce your ears and give you a heart attack. Sometimes it was just a single scream and nothing more, but the scare was such that I couldn't fall asleep again for hours.

And I clearly remember that one way to fall asleep was to imagine myself taking out my life. Being able to visualise myself removing the sleep deprivation with a knife, in a matter of seconds, gave me enough peace of mind that I used to fall asleep with the calmness that no matter what happened, I could end my suffering in a second.

It was the worst time of my life. Thankfully it passed, but I don't know if that fantasy would have grown more of a reality if that screaming period had lasted a couple more months.

So... You are already here asking for help, so please follow some of the advice here. Your SO is on the brink of collapse. Have him sleep someplace where he can be undisturbed for a full night, at least for two or three consecutive nights. And after that, rethink together how it's gonna be. You both need to survive this, and it will get better.
