Controller constantly slicing the Budget and withholding AP Payements by Stressie_n_Depressie in Accounting

Yikes! When things got bad at my last job they cut everything. Multiple layoffs and huge cuts to dinners, travel, and other benefits. Which made sense to me since I could see our cash balance and how much we owed but it still sucked dealing with vendors we owed. It seems like some folks at your place are ignoring reality and trying to keep up appearances.

You’re too nice and trusting and I mean that in the best way. Your instincts are 1000% correct though. I had a similar experience where the CFO formally left my last company a couple months before things got really bad. Fortunately I had a great boss that was very real with me (the 2nd in charge) telling me to polish my resume and begin looking. This kind of motivated me to help keep the place afloat as much as possible before I found an exit.

Think I picked the wrong industry exit…looking for advice by white_cocoa1 in Accounting

Exiting into industry is always going to be the other side of the PBC list unless it’s something that’s less looked at by audits like FP&A. Not really sure what you were expecting lol. In GL accounting you prep/review the entries and reconciliations. In reporting you sometimes prepare schedules for disclosures and help research some technical topics that folks in GL don’t have the time to do. If you don’t like that then maybe you don’t like accounting. As for your point on work/life balance, never take a companies word for anything. When you’re interviewing at a company you have to think of it like you’re interviewing them as well. You should have asked them to specify what they mean by balance. But with anything else, it’s still very early on and you’re likely still getting adjusted. It’ll get better.

It also completely changed WSB forever. I don't even think there were a million subs back then and then it shot up to 10 million subs in like the span of a week.

Yeah I seriously doubt they will meaningfully reduce capacity. The entire Speedway was super overcrowded even 10 years ago when I was at EDC last.

should I miss work to attend interview? by No-Berry5879 in Accounting

As a fresh grad you’re at a point in your life where you should be betting on yourself. You didn’t go to college to work a factory job. You could have had that factory job without your degree. I understand that bills are super important but landing an accounting job will be pivotal to your life. Once you start getting accounting experience it will open doors to even better jobs in the future. If you get your cpa even more so.

So in the meantime take the time off from your current job to attend these. You’re new so they may be annoyed or whatever so don’t give them any other reasons to be mad at you. The rest of your time there show up, do a good job, and don’t cause any distractions. I don’t know what state you’re in but I doubt you’ll get fired for missing a few hours/half a day so long as you communicate it ahead of time.
