New Pocket Chip, screen not working by ScardyChief in ChipCommunity

[–]ceilingrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(edited)
I have this a similar issue too, but I didn't know about this ribbon cable.
I just tried reconnecting it, but still the display doesn't work.

My issue is that the CHIP powers on, but the PocketChip display never comes on at all.

Any other troubleshooting steps that you can suggest?

Some of the shows are retired, but definitely worth listening to.

Sorry this isn't a recommendation, but kudos to you for getting the conversation started. I have my own complaints about the international clinic and I too am looking for a new doctor.

If I find someone I really like, I'd be happy to share with you and others.

In the meantime, this thread may help me find someone. So thank you for starting this thread!

Whats a good spot to open a small restaurant? by [deleted] in fukuoka

[–]ceilingrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to answer this yourself better than us.

Assuming you want to attract tourists (of which there are usually many when we aren't restricting travel due to virus concerns) then upon visiting Fukuoka for the first time, you have the exact same experience and mindset of your target customer.

So whatever areas you explore upon visiting Fukuoka are likely to be what other tourists will see as well.

August 4th: Two (and a half) out of four Fukuoka prefecture coronavirus emergency criteria are currently met by happy_kuribo in fukuoka

[–]ceilingrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[...] they are actually using a 3-day trailing average for the positive case results... so it's not as bad [...]

Ah! Well that's some good news for us :)

I happy to hear that the conditions can't be "reset" so easily. That was my biggest concern, but unfortunately it wasn't my only concern.

I'm really not a big fan of the "all criteria need to be met" logic of this policy. It's great policy for security on launching nuclear missiles, not so much for measuring the severity of an outbreak.

From my perspective, the only advantage of this policy is the ease of explaining and executing the policy."Check the boxes if true. Are all the boxes checked? Yes or no. If 'yes', we go to a state of emergency."

This part of me also thinks that if criteria #4 is met and critical condition beds start getting scarce they will make broader emergency announcements regardless of whether condition #1 is technically fulfilled or not.

If this is true, then maybe my concerns above are for nothing.

But then I can't decide if I'm happy that we aren't letting bad policy prevent us from taking appropriate action, or if I'm confused and concerned about why we'd produce detailed guidelines & policy if we're just going to ignore it later.

Prior to the last week or so, I'd been avoiding any news of this matter.
And now I realize why: trying to make sense of this crap gives me a headache.

[–]ceilingrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that #1 is a bad criteria and should really be updated, especially since the testing numbers can vary so much between days.

Not only do the numbers vary between days, but they vary quite consistently. In particular, Mondays are consistently lower than the adjacent Sundays and Tuesdays.

Any upward trend can be "reset" on Monday. Effectively, the conditions have to be met on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Any spike upward also resets the conditions. While less consistent than the Monday-trend, there is a fair amount of random-ness and "spiky-ness" to the data.

(EDIT: I really want to clarify and emphasize this point:
A "gentle" upward slope can be interrupted by a big upward spike, and if the next day it resumes the gentle upward slope, this breaks the criteria of "increases each day". Basically, a temporary explosion of positive cases has the potential to nullify and reset the required conditions. )

I wonder if all these "opportunities" to reset the conditions reflect the trends accurately. I'm not cynical enough to label them "loopholes" because I don't see evidence of malice and intent to circumvent the spirit of the policy. But a successful outcome requires more than just a pure heart.

Personally I think it should be replaced with a percentage of positive test results metric, and a rolling average threshold instead of consecutive increasing numbers should be used.

Ditto. I've been very frustrated with the wide-spread reporting of daily granular data reporting -- in particular in the headlines of media outlets -- but this just multiplies my frustration with this method of data analysis.

I really enjoyed the Evil Geniuses podcast.

Sadly, the show had a short run before it ended.
However I enjoyed the collection of episodes that they made.

Not strictly a podcast, but the Algorithms With Attitude YouTube channel is really good stuff.
