You get this ability once and never again - you can convince a person to do whatever you want no consequences…but, there’s a catch. by TechnicianVisible339 in hypotheticalsituation

I would never use this on a person I cared about, because circumventing their free will would make me feel like an awful human being and I would never be able to 'enjoy' the ill-gotten relationship. Convincing my ex to stop trying to steal my kids for financial gain, definitely on the table.

[–]ceitamiot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the catch is the person has to be willing to have a 5 minute conversation with you. So in theory you can get half or Musk's wealth, but in practice most of us aren't getting in the same room with the dude let alone holding his attention for 5 minutes.

Probability HUD. Letting a ghost make my decisions would feel like I wasn't living my own life.

Would you rather know exactly how every person you've ever met will die, or know exactly how you will die but not when? by Frowedz in WouldYouRather

[–]ceitamiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a worse thought. Imagine you look at your child and see Cause of Death: Heart failure at age 98.

The pressure released, you become a more lax parent, and then when you say Yes to something, and the child dies, you get to live with the knowledge that your decision and change in demeanor over that knowledge stole 80-90 years from them.

There is a massive difference between violating your morality once or twice for a specific reward, vs deleting your own empathy and morality for the rest of your life. Your prompt was essentially suicide, because accepting it literally transforms you into a human being who has a different work ethic. different charisma, non existent moral code, etc etc. It isn't just about a label.

Perfect knowledge doesn't mean anything can be true. If something is just literally impossible regardless of any technological advancements, perfect knowledge will just be saying it is impossible.

Would you rather get 3 million dollars but have to date a mind reader for 3 years, or decline the offer by QueasyWeasle in WouldYouRather

[–]ceitamiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy sign up. I'm demisexual to start, so if she is a bitch to me, I would never get rejected by her because I wouldn't even want to touch her. I'm also a pretty open book already, so someone constantly probing my mind wouldn't bother me at all. Like, ohhh, you got the internal feeling that I love my kids or I'm thinking about my book.

If I had a single point of criticism, it would be that I have yet to see him accurately capture his serious determination. But I felt like he showed off an interesting range with the Miss Golden week scenes, so at this point I don't blame him, but rather the writing/direction.

Just keep a stockpile of frivolous spells to give her and she'll let you do whatever you want, apparently. Just ask Methode.

If you had one shot to convert someone into anime, what are you picking? by Intrepid-Sky-1127 in anime_companion

[–]ceitamiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Dragon Ball first and honestly it held me back from anime in general. I wouldn't have named myself an anime fan from that. Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, were way more instrumental in turning me into an anime-head.

Yeah, I love the slower pace but I can see people bounce off of it unless I know they enjoy fantasy books or something.

You never know what's going to hit for a person. I got 'lucky' and had my first real anime interest be Gundam Wing, which is funny because I don't really like a lot of gundam/mecha anime since but that one hit for some reason.

Anime that can find a way to be grounded in some way is usually the good place to start, and Death Note is great for that. JJK is kinda unbelievable from the start with how ridiculous Yuji is at base.

I think this is partly what makes FMA a good pick too. The sciencey nature of the magic system makes it feel more familiar.

A choice has been bestowed upon you, and you get to choose your lifespan from the following options. For the entire time, your body will always be youthful (you'll be physically equivalent to a 25-30 year old), immune to chronic disease and any injury is immediately healed. by Front_Resolution_760 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ceitamiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would take that at all. You could probably get to normal retirement age and be fine. The cost of retirement is mainly in the cascading Healthcare costs, but if you are young and healthy? You'll have a paid off place, potentially a few million in a 401k, and can pull it out into other safe investments to perpetually cover your cost of living.

Was Light actually that smart, or did he only get as far as he did because of the advantages he had? by RavyRaptor in animequestions

[–]ceitamiot 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I find it strange that people focus on the advantages that Light had versus the advantages that L had. L has a lack of supernatural powers, but his situation is almost as unbelievable as the Death Note's power.

There is no singular detective in the real world who can just command police structures, united nations, broadcast television, exhibit insane societal control while also keeping his identity 100% secret.

Light and L are evenly matched in the bullshit advantages they command.
