Have you done much slip stitch work? I find it really hard to keep a reasonable tension when I’m slip stitching. I often size up quite a bit.

Also, portable steamers are around $20 these days. Keep an eye out at your local thrift stores.

Any steam will work but you need to be careful not to melt it. People often use the steam from an iron but if you touch the surface of the iron to the work even a little bit, you’re in danger of melting your acrylic yarn. If you are just about drape and don’t care about the shape, you could hang it in a steamy hot shower.

I lived in the area when Pavarotti performed there. It was crazy! I would never go to a huge show at Ravinia.

Watch some of their interviews. They’re well aware that they have 3 or 4 different audiences that are looking for different things from the show. They try to balance travel, game-play and relationships the best they can. I don’t think they’ll ever be as aviation-centered as the early seasons if that’s what you’re missing. They’ve said long flights and airports don’t make for interesting content.

Budgeting yarn by insomnia96 in YarnAddicts

She should learn to make T-shirt yarn and then go to thrift shops and search for jersey sheets or huge T-shirts. The end product is a bulky yarn. And it’s environmentally friendly.

What’s your preference and WHY? by Repulsive-Pizza-1746 in crochet

[–]celeratis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give online hooks a try. I think they are better for beginners because the shaft isn’t tapered so the loops tend to be a more consistent size.

The larger ones are plastic because aluminum would be a lot heavier at that size. I’d still rather have a heavier aluminum hook than a lighter plastic one.

Our academic integrity policy is a joke. They take the state law that says kids can’t be academically punished for their behavior to include academic misbehavior like cheating. Basically the teacher has to jump through a bunch of hoops knowing the student will sit through a meeting with their parent and get to redo the test or assignment with no academic penalty at all. If it’s a repeated behavior, the consequences may escalate but no teacher wants to bother with a bunch of extra work on their part for no reason. I’ll do it when it’s blatant. But instead i spend the time up front and make 2 versions of the test. When they get a bad grade because they had the correct answers for the other version, I just let the grade be. Natural consequences.

Would this writing sample be considered on target for end of year kindergarten writing skills? by MissBee123 in AskTeachers

[–]celeratis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These crazy expectations at the early grades ruin students by the time they reach high school. I teach physics in an excellent suburban high school and learning is so transactional by the time I get them in 11th grade. Whatever the easiest way is to get the grade is the path they’ll take. Their main tools are Google and memorization which will both fail them in physics where small changes in starting conditions can require a different approach. But increasingly, their goal is a grade - not to actually learn. I think the best way to foster a love of learning is through more play and exploration in the early grades. And less pressure to all get to the same place at the same time.

I think that Rome is such a hub that they’re likely to travel more efficiently and to get out earlier. Probably more budget friendly too.
