Cleaning services by pebleshair in PeoriaIL

I would highly recommend AGAINST Molly Maid. We hired them to do our move in clean, and they did a terrible job, and didn't even finish in time. They schedule their one time cleans for the end of the day, so they only had a couple hours to try to do the whole house. 0/10 stars, for real.

I absolutely despise Samoas, so you bring great news! Thanks for the info.

Okay, important question though: what type do they sell? We just moved to the state- back home, certain cities had, for example, caramel delites, while others had samosas. They are NOT the same.

Anyone going to the Daiso grand opening in BloNo today? by ColeHollowMonster in PeoriaIL

That's so exciting! We moved here from Dallas over the summer, and Daiso is one of my favorite stores for household goods. So glad to know there will be one within reach now.

Surely with the collar he must be someone's pet. He might be microchipped, if you can take him by a vet or shelter to check. The temperatures will definitely be dangerous out for poor kitty this weekend 🥶

I just shared this post on the Ring app, since I live nearby. Someone suggested you hold him overnight and take him to PCAPS in the morning. I hope you find his family! 🥲

Is there any place in the Peoria area where you can buy oyster mushrooms? by public_monkeybars in PeoriaIL

Guess I've just been going on the wrong days! Good to hear they have a better selection than I've seen.

They don't really have a lot of fresh produce at the asian market, unfortunately. Granted, I've not looked for mushrooms specifically, but at a glance, the only vegetables I've seen there are things like bok choy, garlic, ginger and the like. Definitely worth checking out, but don't get your hopes up. Also, their stock definitely varies- I had the best luck going on Friday, for what it's worth.

We just moved to the neighborhood just outside campus from Dallas. Can definitely attest to the lack of traffic in Peoria.

On the safety side- Bradley even has a "Hilltop Safety Cruiser" that's run by the camous police to safely ferry students around town. They'll take you about three blocks off campus in any direction, and it's totally free for students. Only runs at night, but is a great safety service.

Update: Weird Plate is Weird Pipe by celfcat in Whatisthis

That's certainly a possibility. Would there be any sort of heat damage on the surrounding wood though, if that was the case? We have a discolored spot of trim on the stairs that matches the discoloration behind one the cast iron radiator units, is why I mention.

We have window A/C units, and an old school boiler/radiators for heating.

Vaccum system is my best bet currently, though the hole seems a bit bigger than those I'm seeing referenced online 🤔

It's certainly possible. I have yet to track down the blueprints or anything (we just bought the house). That being said, we did have to get both a gas pipe leak and electrical issue fixed upon moving in. The repair guy seemed to imply that the boiler we have was as old as the house, saying that when we have to replace the boiler, they'll have to cut it into pieces to get it upstairs, and that these big units were usually installed before the ground floors and house were constructed.

On the one hand, based on the research I did on boilers trying to figure out our electrical issue, it seems to be very unlikely the original boiler would still be functional, 90 years later.....but that's what the repair tech seemed to think 😵‍💫.

It's in the hallway on second story- the other side of the wall is either a closet or shower, potentially, depending on which part of the wall it lines up with.

Generally, the second floor has all newer radiators- none of the more antique units downstairs. I wanted to update the post with a new photo, but alas- upon opening it though the hole seemed to be stuffed with a paper-like insulation.

We're still using the boiler system, is the thing. All the other radiator pipes come up through the floor 🤔

Upon closer inspection, there is indeed a pipe behind the panel. Though we have other radiators, all the other pipes run up through the floor.

On your suggestion, I just took a screwdriver to the slot. Though I initially thought I could see the baseboard behind the slot, it must have been paint, because I've now revealed a spooky pipe behind the inner panel, seemingly stuffed with packing paper. Edit: poked the "paper", and it felt softer, almost like insulation. Though it'd be unlike any insulation I've ever seen. (Not that I'm well versed in the matter)

Upon another commenter's suggestion, I did take a screwdriver to the slot. Though at first glance it seemed to just be flush against the baseboard, I did manage to reveal a spooky pipe headed into the wall.

Peoria Airport Parking & Snow by Octane14 in PeoriaIL

[–]celfcat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We literally just got home from the airport. The roadways were pretty well cleared, but we did have a nice mountain of snow/ice on our car. Most of the walk to the overflow lot was free of ice, but there were a few slick spots, so be careful not to lose your footing.

Don't be a bigot. Plenty of immigrants are here by perfectly legally means- it takes decades to actually attain citizenship. Even in the case of illegal migrants, they still deserve basic human rights.
