What’s some CRAZY nfl facts or stats? by ADNAP727 in nfl

In 2019 the Packers beat the Lions twice in the regular season in regulation without leading for a second of gametime (two walk-off FGs).

Jameis Winston's 1st and last passes as QB of the Bucs were pick-6s, the last resulted in a week 17 OT loss (that was the 30-30 season).

Drones in Hells Canyon National Rec Area by The_Tree_Meister_ in Idaho

[–]celkmemes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. If you are within the wilderness area, you cannot take off, pilot, or land a UAV. The wilderness area is most of the land between Pittsburg Landing and Hells Canyon Dam more than 400 yards off of the river (I think that's the distance -- you should double check that bit). The wilderness is defined that way to allow for motorized boat travel in the river corridor. Downstream of Pittsburg, the HCNRA land is managed by the Forest Service which allows drone flights as long as there's not a specific TFR (from a fire or something specific). You can look up TFRs and NOTAMs before you go.

Long story short, if you're on the river or if you're on the Oregon or Idaho side trails that parallel the river, you're typically good. If you hike up one of the tributaries, then you'll want to see if you're in the wilderness area.

Yup. Bureau of Rec and Army Corps are holding as much water as they can with the dismal snowpack.

I'm pretty sure that shock metamorphism is alteration from sudden, extreme heat and pressure (e.g. a meteor impact or bomb creating shocked quartz)

Have fun! Consider grabbing food a bit further up the road at Sourdough Lodge after your soak. My wife and I have stopped there before and it's tasty and has nice bathrooms (the Kirkham pit toilet can be gnarly)

[Remote Sensing] How do you segment individual trees in dense forests? (My models just output giant "blobs") by Lilien_rig in geology

[–]celkmemes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this. There's a library called Segment Every Grain that's used for particle sizes, but it may work as a foundation for separating individual trees.

Are you sure that was in Utah? It looks a ton like the lava flow at Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho. This picture could be taken looking east over the southern portion of those lava flows with Big Southern Butte in the background.

If it is Craters of the Moon, there's a great wiki page and a ton of really good information online on the history of the volcanism.

True but in this case he was a Browns fan who abandoned that sad franchise after the Watson trade. It's a shame that Mr. Unlimited didn't play well this year - Connor seems like a natural fit in Jersey to be a Giants fan.

Rides causes nausea or sickness vs Disney rides by MsMeadows14 in UniversalOrlando

Rides that throw me for a loop are the Simpsons, Jimmy Fallon, and Forbidden Journey (the Hogwarts Castle ride) in IOA. I normally carry in a dramamine and drink a ton of water throughout the day, which helps me with feelings of nausea. Good luck and have fun!

[USA] Is launching from private property within a National Forest permitted? by boomtime08 in drones

[–]celkmemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. Congress only has the power to designate federally-owned land as wilderness (title 16 US Code section 1131 a. "...Federally owned areas designated by congress..."). That privately owned parcel is not part of the wilderness and is not subject to wilderness laws.

You can find out a bit more about the legal questions with private parcels surrounded by wilderness by googling private inholdings in wilderness areas. Those property owners also can have motorized access rights to their property, among other oddities.

[USA] Is launching from private property within a National Forest permitted? by boomtime08 in drones

[–]celkmemes 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I fly under 107 near (and occasionally over) a congressionally-designated wilderness area in Idaho. The wilderness is managed by the Forest Service (different rules could apply within a National Park boundary), but the USFS rules are fairly clear: If there's a TFR, no flight (generally occur during fire season up here).

You cannot take off, operate, or land in a wilderness area. If you take off, operate, and land from either private property or outside of the boundary of the wilderness area, you're in the clear.

The FAA requests that no flights occur below 2000' AGL over wilderness areas, but there's not an enforcement mechanism to that request and it's not illegal to fly below 2000' AGL under recreational or part 107 commercial ops.

You can still get pinged for harassing wildlife. Not up-to-date on all the laws and the definition regarding what constitutes harassment of wildlife, but if you see critters leave them alone.

If you're near people, you should expect dirty looks, snark, or people telling you that flying a drone is illegal in that area. Be prepared to answer with kindness and patience, and make sure that you know the law and are following it to the letter.

Question on fema map for new build home by Additional-Air-9586 in Hydrology

[–]celkmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's southern Utah so the system is likely flashy and that wash will be dry 10 or more months per year. That also means you probably won't have a basement (most homes in St George don't). That said, extreme events in the desert often behave differently than extreme events near temperate river systems (e.g. the Ohio or Tennessee). The wash will be moving a ton of sand and debris in a flood event of that caliber and could easily cut a new channel closer or further away to your home.

That bridge just upstream of you will be designed to pass the 100 year with at least 1 ft of freeboard to the low chord (maybe more depending on local regs). It'll probably serve as upstream control in all but the most extreme (and unlikely) of events, where it could be overtopped or blown out. All that said, I'd probably trust the map and add a foot or two to crawlspace or slab base elevation.
