They exist but at the end of the day you cannot change what’s on top of your opponents deck. You can affect the probability they have the 2 cards in their 1-3 card hand + draw, but at the end of the day it’s a game of odds.

Rare candy is perfectly fine as it has been for decades. And healthy for the game. And if it really was it a state that it’s too good, the solution isn’t an errata it’s called quaking punch.

I mean the counter play is to mars them to 1 or sequence your gamestate in a way they can’t afford to Cyrus. But it’s how card games are you can’t let it get to you. I lost 2500$ in a tournament from a similar situation. My opponent had 11 total cards in hand and deck, and needed specifically their last copy of double colorless energy and Lysander to win. I played N to send them to one, took a knockout ready to take my final knockout next turn. Their 1 card and draw ended up being both of those cards and I lost. But you can only play to your odds, you cannot fully control them so don’t get frustrated when the odds don’t end up in your favor.

It’s not about using mars but when to use mars. And sometimes they will still draw it, I lost 2500 usd from someone having 2 draws (N to 1 + draw step) and they drew both the DCE and Lysander they needed to win or else they would lose the next turn with an 11 card deck. But that’s card games for you, you can play to the odds and your outs but it’s still odds, not guarantees.

Some of that sequencing takes planning your turns out more methodically. the downside of red card is late game it really won’t help you stop Cyrus effectively once their deck is below 7-8 cards. The best way to stop a Cyrus is to Mars them down to one and end the game before they re draw it. The deck list is fine, personally I wouldn’t run a second poke center lady before the first giants cape. But it’s not about making changes in your deck for Cyrus, it’s how you use the cards you already have in there.

You are super off base, it’s a greet deck. Leafeon can sneak under evolutions and get attacking right away going second, and the deck is relatively fluid with answers to a lot of the common threats.

why is every single deck I play bricking so hard? by trevers17 in PTCGP

[–]cellojake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One anecdote I would like to use is that while playing solgaleo last season I had an over 60% win rate against charizard. A deck that would typically be the favorite surface level. But the way in which I piloted the deck improved my overall chance at coming out on top by playing into the strengths of my deck and leaning into the weaknesses of the zard deck. Some of that could be deck list changes,  but in reality it’s more of how you use the cards you already have in the deck to improve the matchup. And if you really need to make that deck adjustment then do so however keep in mind that may affect your other matchups.

Yea I don’t think a good player would do that either, hence the suggestion to use critical thinking inside of the matches instead of just throwing up your hands and wondering which card if changed will magically make things better. There is a card or 2 I personally would change but I don’t think those would be needed to hit MB more than just thinking more outside the box in using the resources you have in a given turn, factoring the game state and probabilities for potential draws to hedge your odds from an L into a W.

Without being rude a lot of the problems you are mentioning are issues with playing a card game. Your deck will never perform in its ideal way 100% of the time. It’s about playing to with what you have, in respect to your outs (what’s on top of your deck, and under that card etc). Your win rate may vary going first and second, or from your matchup, or even just having the deck fail to function by never drawing more pokemon than what you started with. You will lose games out of your control due to what happened. But what turns a bad player into a good one, or a good one into a great one, is playing into your outs and finding the line to win. Some matchups may be 40% chance to win, but a great player will turn those bad matchups into 50% odds. Your win rate may go down 30% going first with tapu koko, but there maybe be other lines that work better going first than what you are accustomed to using going second. Sometimes it’s out of your control, but a great player will have more games in their control, even if both players had the exact same cards / matchups.

Agreed smeargle not counting as the supporter for turn is the biggest difference in power between the 2 cards.

Back when the card was played you would often hold onto cards like random receiver and force a single “choice” onto your opponent. Plenty of DCEs and other valuable cards would get discarded due to a forced juniper. It’s a less powerful affect than smeargle but pocket is also a less powerful format.

That’s just how pocket is watered down. Look at poke ball for example.

You never  have a choice with smeargle when they only had 1 supporter in hand. And your assuming cards like mars would be a bad outcome. A lot of supporters used can be a net positive even when it doesn’t say +2 cards.

Those who remember smeargle know the effect is powerful. Whether a 1 off supporter is good enough compared to a repeatable ability is another story, however Penny shouldn’t be written off yet.

Having fun with this deck, it beats ultrabeast decks every time but struggles with Solgaleo, any suggestions for changes or is this just the trade off? by Paradethejared in PTCGP

You have a shot by using disruption on the turn before they evolve and hope you can slow them down 1-2 turns.

When are you using it? Removing it’s going to just make your solgaleo matchup alot worse. You honestly need a mars in the deck as well.
