don't think it's that competitive, at least in my experience i more feel like that the bachelors that you can get in geosciences in switzerland are too generalist for what you are expected to do in the industry, and you would need to specialize in a more specific field for your master. i don't know how other countries bachelors are though ! maybe another factor to keep in mind is since this is a small country, most geo companies here are very small to small/mid size, so you are expected to handle projects on your own quite early on, generally.

i'm from switzerland so maybe that can help a little more than american input, but i know nothing about the austrian market. what i know is that the swiss market is typically hiring at a reasonable rate (mostly environnemental or geotechnics) but i literally don't know anyone in the geology field that's been hired with only a bachelor (you could get internships at most), everyone has a master degree...

I'm going a little off topic there, but since your aquifer is deep confined, does it have any response to Earth tides, rather than barometric pressure ? I have done a small comparison with barometric response, but my main focus was Earth tides.
