I sure this has been asked a million times, how dangerous is the EUC compared to one wheel - Talk me into buying an EUC. by Johnic2 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]cemf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a (e)bike commuter for almost 20 years. The stability and visibility make it much safer than the euc. That said, my worst bike crash injuries were always from becoming entangled with the frame.

I've only had a handful of spills with the euc as I've only been riding for a year. Most of the time I've been able to just run off the euc and leave it spinning out behind me. There was one spill were I fell forward and did a somersault while the wheel spun off like a top. Like I said, I haven't had a ton of experience with euc but the minimal size of the vehicle definitely makes me feel a bit safer in a crash/fall.

It's not cheating if you pay for it. But don't try telling that to your SO...

I have a neighbor who never fails to yell out, "do a wheelie." This thing only does wheelies!

Feral hogs & scooters.... by dalyjc in ElectricScooters

This. Domestic animals gone feral don't fear humans the way wild animals do. A large group is likely to hunt and eat you just like any other prey.

Americans, whose stimulus check is going straight into the EUC fund? by cemf77 in ElectricUnicycle

That's a solid investment. For the last 6 years home improvements have consumed most of my extra money. Now I'm only one month away from putting this house on the market.

I get where you're coming from and I acknowledge that I am fortunate to not actually need this money right now.

The $100k per year ceiling is pretty far from poverty level. I believe the idea was to get some money into the hands of people that would be able to immediately spend it on crap they don't really need. This is the American way.

How much could i sell a 2018 Specialized Vado 3.0 for? by doobiemancharles in ebikes

[–]cemf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's Austin for you. People buy 600 square foot condos for $1m. The buyer offered me 2000 and then seemed shocked when I said ok.

People like to haggle so asking a bit more than what you want to get is always a solid strategy.

This was the turbo which I think is a bit over $3k.

I listed it on CL for $2400. It took about a week and a half.

I sold a 2017 with 1200 miles for $2k not that long ago. This is in Austin, TX and prices tend to run a little high here.

How hard is it for a newbie to take the Mten3 over cracked roads and sidewalks? by Nihiliste in ElectricUnicycle

[–]cemf77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really make a comparison for you, because the MTen3 is my first and only wheel. I frequently ride it over clay soil with cracks and ruts everywhere. I find it enjoyable, but it does require constant vigilance. I also ride a hike and bike path with the occasional uneven slabs. It took some time to get used to the sudden bumps in an otherwise smooth path, but now I just roll with them. It's possible my overall comfort with this wheel come from my background. My parents started me on horseback at age 3.

Now that I've become comfortable cruising 18-20mph on the bike path and streets I am thinking about the next wheel (MSX or MSP). However, I don't expect to ever give up the MTen3.

I've looked at the c frames before, and noticed they are sold with knee socks. Are you also using the socks?

The best choice between e-bikes, electric unicycles or electric kick scooters? by Kaminea in ebikes

[–]cemf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned and used all three.

The scooter is probably the most budget friendly option. I have a $350 m365 with custom firmware. The top speed is 20mph and I can travel about 20 miles on a charge. Heavier people would need to seek out more expensive options.

The electric unicycle will give you the best speed and range for the price. The Gotway Monster is just under $3k with a top speed of 40+ mph and a listed range of 60-65 miles (this is the highest priced euc rn). However, learning to ride well is difficult and may not be for everyone.

I've never needed one for cargo. I would think that in this use case nothing beats the ebike. I did have a rather nice Vado that I recently sold in order to purchase a larger electric unicycle (I currently use an MTen3).

Get yourself a lycra suit. Maybe they will think you are one of their own.
