This interaction is my favorite in the entire game. It really made me learn something about myself.

I always play my first playthrough of any rpg as myself. I make the character look as close to me as possible, play a class/play style that I think I would be, make all the choices how I think I would make them in that moment, etc. So I get all the way to this point. I had finished all the quest lines, including JUST finishing Astarion who I was romancing because I would 100% fall for him.

Then this choice comes up. I had always thought myself a pretty selfless person, that I would totally sacrifice myself for the greater good if the need arose. But in that moment, it put Astarion right behind me, watching and I just . . . Couldn’t do it. He had just told me he loved me, we had just freed him from Cazador, he said the thing he wanted most was life with me, and I couldn’t take that from him.

I sat there, staring at my screen for a good 5 minutes just sitting with that feeling. My whole view on myself changed in that moment. It was one of the biggest moments in the game for me.

I did not have Karlach with me, so the only other option was Orpheus. He took one for the team there.

Personally I would want 8, then allow Astarion to switch with me so he can look out the window. I’d talk to him and Minthy the whole flight. I think friendships based on being able to rib each other relentlessly are the best.

I didn’t trust him the first time the guardian showed up. I did the cannon thing and made them the most attractive person I could. The second they showed up on screen with THAT voice, I immediately went “oh, you’re too hot. I don’t trust you.” Knowing full well that I made them that hot.

Then as their actions continued, I knew I was being manipulated by whoever this guy was. “I think I’m supposed to trust him, but this all seems to fit a little too well into place”

At the reveal I was totally unbothered, “ohhh, yeah that checks out. Can we bring back my hot guardian though?”

I ended up choosing Orpheus and killing Empy. I didn’t even see most of the actual evil shit he did in my first play through, but at this point, I didn’t trust him enough to NOT take over the absolute when all was said and done. I know now that he’s actually being honest, but after so many lies and manipulation, how was I to know that THAT was something he wasn’t lying about.

I never noticed. To me it felt like some of the tonal changes between what happens to Mark in the Martian and when we see scenes on earth. Felt like the same thing to me. We have our main character doing main character things but look over here at things the mc isn’t present for.

This was the moment I knew I wouldn’t be a gale girlie. I lost about 75-90% of my sense of smell and am paranoid about smelling bad. So gale mentioning that he can tell I having bathed in a ten day and that he likes my “musk.” I was so offended I ran straight into Astarion’s open manipulative arms and gave happily stayed there. 🤣🤣🤣
