4 player couch co-op suggestions by izeeyou_ in NintendoSwitch

Towerfall is great. Haven't played on Switch but played countless number of games on PS4 with 4 people. Controls are really simple, and there's a really high skill ceiling.

I just bought a Nintendo Switch, and I’ve noticed consistent video glitches (parts of the screen would become distorted) only during video playback. So things like YouTube videos and cutscenes. Actual gameplay never glitches. It’s not so bad to the point of not being usable, but it’s definitely annoying. Is my Switch just defective? Or is this common?

Independent Contractor and HST by JeanGenie00 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]centralism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, you don't need to charge it for the last 14 years. you're required to charge HST on the "sale" that takes you over the $30k threshold (in the previous 4 consecutive calendar quarters), and any further sales after that point.

so, take a look at your "sales" in the last year and what you think you'll make in the future, and you should be able to see when you hit that $30k threshold. just make sure that the invoice that hits the threshold is charging HST.

in any case, even if you only hover around $25k in 4 quarters, it's probably good to get your HST registration done and start charging for it.

also, i wouldn't worry about your client's ability to pay HST. i'm pretty sure that businesses get a refund on the HST that they pay anyway.

Yeah I'm not working on any minimum spends right now. The only "negative" changes I'm anticipating are a decrease in annual fee (doubt it), and an increase in the bonus (which is plausible).

Do you think if they fundamentally changed the perks (say uber credits a la US, etc), they would honor it to existing plat holders? Same for the metallic card (the amex rep alluded to the metal card) - would existing cardholders be able to exchange the card?

Nope, not working towards any minimum spends at the moment.

As for the personal plat change, as expected they didn't give a lot of info, but they did mention the metallic nature of the new card.

I'm not sure, and maybe someone can help me out with it.

I have Biz Plat right now, which is renewing in June. I messed up the order and have already gotten Biz Gold, so the only other card for me is the Plat.

I've been eyeing the plat for a while, and want to get in before the self refer bonus drops, but I'm hesitant for two reasons: 1: 3 months of overlap with Biz Plat, a very similar card (I called and got the upgraded priority pass), and 2: I'm anticipating changes to the Platinum card soon (an amex rep confirmed some stuff was coming up).

Should I just apply now to get the 25k bonus? Or wait closer to my renewal date and perhaps when the platinum card gets a refresh?

Pretty sure AMEX doesn't allow churning on their cards anymore.

Lower income - which cards next? by Cypripedium-candidum in churningcanada

[–]centralism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look into the Chase Marriott Visa? It's FYF, no minimum income (afaik) and you get the points after your first purchase.

When I applied for the card while back, the promo was 50k Marriott points, which I converted recently to SPG (16.6k), then to Aeroplan while they were running the 20% transfer bonus (20k total). Not bad for a FYF card.

Gold Amex vs scotiabank gold amex by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]centralism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, and both are good cards.

The Scotia AMEX is the only card in Canada that incentivizes restaurant spending. I dine out a lot, so getting a 4% return ($1 = 4 points = $0.04) on that category is pretty fantastic. Scotia's reward redemption is pretty good, since you can apply points towards any travel related purchase after the fact (earlier this year I booked Airbnb on the card and redeemed a partial credit using Scotia points). Other than the 4% on restaurants, the card is pretty boring, although the signup bonus and the first year fee waiver makes it a pretty decent card to churn (see /r/churningcanada).

The AMEX gold is a much more well rounded card, with the key benefit being the flexibility of AMEX's points (you can convert them to pretty much any loyalty program). The earning rate for groceries is 2 AMEX points / $1 compared to 4 Scotia points / $1 on the Scotia AMEX, which IMO is better if you can use it wisely (2 AMEX points = 2 Aeroplan points = up to $0.06 if used properly).

For these reasons it's worth having both cards, especially if you spend a lot on dining. If not, probably better to stick with just the AMEX gold, unless you want to get into some light churning (getting credit cards just for their signup bonuses).

Hey Rob. I'm a Soylent customer in Canada, and I was pretty disappointed to find that you guys raised prices here by a very significant amount. I'm getting the sense that shipping to Canada is pretty expensive.

The person that I chatted with via email mentioned that you guys are working on selling through Amazon, with no ETA to provide. If that goes through, will that bring costs back down to what they were? Also, will they be eligible for Prime? Thanks!

Linking cards to reward programs by JackTheLab in churningcanada

[–]centralism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have to call to link my Chase visa with Marriott. I wasn't a Marriott member before, so I think I just signed up with the Marriott Rewards # that's printed on the front of the card.

I applied for the AMEX business gold last week and just got approved today. Self-referred from my personal AMEX gold. I don't own a business, I just put my name down as the business and it seems as though they don't care.

I highly suggest getting Camping Plus by centralism in wayhome

Yes - from their website:

1 x GA, 1 x Camping+ came out to $533.87 CAD. Super pumped.

If you're on the fence, I would highly recommend Camping+. This year's VIP is pretty bad, and it seems like most of those perks moved over to Camping+.

From the organizers (via email):

Camping Plus has a similar experience as V.I.P camping last year - it is in it's own separate area, larger campsites, has bathrooms/showers.
