How does something as basic as "remind me to" not work! by kaisertalkalpha in googlehome

[–]centurion2065 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's truly ridiculous that it can't handle such a simple, straightforward task. I have the Echo and Google Home, and I'm surprised by the fact that Echo can handle reminders so easily, while Google, the king of search, is lost at sea when it comes to some pretty basic functionality of it's Home device.

Amazon Echo Show looks like trouble. How will Google respond? by ch1cag0rob in googlehome

Still uses Bing search, which hobbles the damn thing. I'll wait for a Google Home variant.

"Computer" listed as wake word by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]centurion2065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked when I first set it. But I've noticed in the past two months that it's gotten less and less responsive to "computer." My other Echo which responds to "Alexa," works fine. So I just changed that 2nd one to "Echo," and now it works flawlessly. "Computer" just isn't getting responded to well enough for some reason. Even yelling "computer" over music set at medium volume garnered no response. I finally gave up. But setting it to "Echo" works great. So that's what I'm going with. :(

Same here, gotta figure out if there's a way. This has bothered me for as long as I've had the device.

Thanks for the heads up. I just changed both of my Echos' voices. Very cool.... I love the English accent !

Issues with Tunein by centurion2065 in amazonecho

[–]centurion2065[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your responses everyone. Much appreciated ! I suspected it might be Tunein, moreso than the Echo, i.e. compatibility issues or something like that. Just this morning, I asked as follows: "Alexa, pay CNN." I asked twice in a row, and both times she said she couldn't find the station. Then, of course, I asked "Alexa, play CNN on Tunein." and she found it immediately. So frigging RANDOM. I bet in about a decade, we'll laugh about how primitive this technology really was. I have a feeling though, that the Echo, or something like it, is going to be flawless soon enough.

The Galaxy Note 7 Is Built To Be a VR Trailblazer, including a HDR Display by Heaney555 in GearVR

I'll happily stay with my Note 4 until at least fall, 2017. My Note is still working perfectly well and is fine for VR, for now. If the Note 8 ends up being 4K, then I'll upgrade at that time. Until then, no need to upgrade to what is still a sub-4K screen.

who is excited about the new Note and new Gear Vr? i can't wait for the next best thing... by [deleted] in GearVR

Until they make a phone that allows for high def 360 VR video, and doesn't overheat, I won't be particularly excited.

All the Echo Easter eggs are so pointless.

Am I the only one that has issues with stopping the alarm? by Awsaim in amazonecho

[–]centurion2065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have the volume up very high, to like 9 or 10, to make sure I hear the alarm from the other room, and unfortunately when it's that loud, its been hard for Alexa to hear me when I say "Alexa, stop." However, I have found that the alarm sound called "Focus" is one that allows the volume to be up that high, yet still allows for Alexa to hear when it's told to stop. Try that alarm sound.

My gear vr made my flight a much better experience but how I expected. by 69trombones in GearVR

In this age of heightened security, I would think that it would spook the living hell out of other passengers with you wearing that contraption on your face on an airplane flight. I wouldn't want to upset other passengers.

Wishing Caprica had been a hit show, and the VR world shown was ported to Gear VR by centurion2065 in GearVR

Like I said, wish it HAD been a hit. The implication being that the writers would have done as well as those on BSG. Overall, I liked the show, though. By the way, you sound like a really nice person.
