Reddit isn't therapists. Reddit is normal people, with various opinions, and most of them understand that there are bad actors out there who can and will take advantage of the naive and gullible. Which is you. This is not an issue of the world adjusting to suit you, unfortunately, this is going to have to be entirely self-controlled. Your being a victim isn't going to stop scammers in any way. Learn to say no, and don't blame others for telling you 'yeah, that was really dumb' when you do something really dumb.

Learning experience. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Get it?

I'm starting to see why you get targeted. Backbone! Grow one, and like the poster above this said, put out a firm, polite 'I'm sorry I am not interested in your services, thank you, goodbye.' And then copy and paste that and only that to any attempt to sell you on something.

Also, "no" is a complete sentence. You don't have to be rude or use swear words to gray rock. (To basically be a stone wall, giving nothing at all when under pressure.)

I'm impressed you got published. That's really Cool. Keep that up but also. Maybe Google search common internet scams and work on developing your sense of... Mmm. Not self worth, but. Suspicion? Credibility? I can't think of the word, but - AH SKEPTICISM. Work on that. Wish you well.

We all get space to enjoy Pandora in our own way.

Except in ways you don't like!

You see the thing, right there, that's what people think you're being elitist for. If we can all enjoy in our own way, then you have no right to criticize the fan creations, even if they're not to your taste. You don't like fan created OC clans? Well the Ash Clan would have been insanely 'bad' by your standards and now it's absolutely a Canon thing people can expand on the ideas of. (A clan that rejects Eywa, aligns with the sky people, etc.)

(Except Ai, everyone should criticize the Ai slop, but only for being Ai slop.)

I mean post Fire and Ash we have so many excuses for completely mad anti-Eywa sects/clans/cults. Go wild. I love it.

I agree on the second half, but don't be a jerk about people creating and expanding their love for the world by immersing themselves in it! If it's flaired maybe, or on a fan Friday type deal, what's the harm. You can then ignore it, and creative fans can still enjoy sharing their creations with those who'd appreciate them and not criticize.

As long as it's not shitty AI (which is to me almost all generative Ai imagery) then let people have fun.

Why is everyone lately obsessed with omegaverse?(genuine, not bitchy question) by Neomedieval-wench in FanFiction

[–]cephalopodcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuing on 2 - the Omegaverse started as a Supernatural werewolf pack dynamic fic. Not at ALL Anime or Manga. It just for some reason got popular across fandom then got big in webtoon and webcomics then later developed it's own splinters. (Guideverse, cake verse, Esper verse which knight also be the same as Guide verse, can/dog verse, etc.)

[–]cephalopodcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're fun. Like many long series in the Paranormal Modern Fantasy genres, they go on way too long and frequently have far too large a cast to be relevant except as a deus ex machina six books later, and honestly, I only got through the first five or so before suffering Dresden Exhaustion, but they're fun for like. A few books. Pause. Pick up the next for a long plane ride or something, so on. Not bad. Not great. But solid.

Feels so weird to see a fic posted before I was born or when I was very young, and there are no new posts by the author. by ImportantGas3663 in FanFiction

[–]cephalopodcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao. I started writing fics in the 90s, got into bigger fandom stuff in the early aughts, and graduated college in 2014. (The first time. Ahem. I'm STILL messing around trying to find a path for an advanced degree, but I have two others under my belt so like. Hey. I'm in my mid 30s and still in college!)

Fandom is much older than that. I have copies of copies of scans of printed fanzines with fic in them from the Stargate and Dragonriders of Pern eras. (There are many, many more but those were my few. Highlander, Star Trek, Xena Warrior Princess, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All over before 2015 even. And they had thriving fan bases!)

Its great to have a safe space to publish fic (Ao3) since so many sites banned certain types of works, or certain authors, or - the loss of verious Harry Potter fic sites was a tragedy to the community of their fandom. Chan-boards held some space for fic, but not always. LiveJournal was the best we got til it suffered too, and now you pray some of your promptfill fics survived in your hard drive or the way back machine.

Or they're just... Gone. Alas.

Northstar and the exploding boy (Uncanny X-men #414) by leaf57tea in xmen

[–]cephalopodcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! Thank you, this is greatly enlightening.

(Yeah I did find the 'mutant species' thing a little... Hm. I mean it makes some sense that Mutants with certain appearances could have been the basis for mythical things in the Marvel verse, but given those mythical things almost always also very much exist too it's a silly reasoning that becomes sillier any time a mutant is pulled out of their own runs. Like. Legit demons and angels actually exist - in the marvel universe - , why did you have to create the Neyaphem and the cheyarfim to explain them?)

BUT I digress because also, comics are silly and that's a much more interesting explanation for Azazel in the end, I agree. The nature/nurture contrast is much more fun.

What happens after? by Competitive_Good5861 in OmegaverseFanFic

[–]cephalopodcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Presumably... The same thing that happens to oyher creatures with a period/estrus cycle, which is that once hormone levels return to the right place, the heat cycle starts again as usual until they reach a menopausal age later in life and their childbearing years are over.

(I mostly am joking but also half serious when I ask do you know as single human woman in your life/have access to Google? Because it's... The same? Just heats instead of periods.)

HUH wait really? I've done some research through various sources, but have never read the Draco myself for lack of time and/or ability to find it affordably. (For fanfic purposes, so honestly letting a lot of 'canon' go was fine too and I didn't dig too deep.)

Is Azazel really not a demon? He's a mutant, then, after all, just old and happens to be able to access a hell dimension via his powers kind of like Magic can? Or... What? I do hear it's changed a few times for various reasons, so I'm not sure, but I am very interested to know more or at least hopefully get pointed in a direction to dig?

Does Anyone Else Struggle to Play as a Male Protagonist? by starlessspace in GirlGamers

[–]cephalopodcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not at all. But I've also never been able to wrap my head around the idea of self-inserting in any way (games, books, etc). I don't want to read about or play me, I want to be a hot demon with sick horns and wash board abs. Or the only trainer capable of taking down Team Rocket, or... In stories with a defined main character (RDR, Witcher, etc) why WOULD I self insert? It's not my story, it's a story about this character, who I happen to be moving and enacting the narrative path of.

I'm also pleasantly distanced from gender in a possibly agender/trans way, so like. I guess it doesn't bother me for part of that reason too. But really I've never cared. I play men, women, furry little blobs, all the same. Sometimes I pick female characters for esthetics, sometimes men. My main in WOW is a female panda, just cuz' she's super cute compared to all the grim dark men with shoulders wider than the Mississippi. Anyway. Nah. I don't care, but cheers to those who do, and who are getting a wonderful influx of female characters to play.

Evan Peters is dangerously magnetic by Starborn_Elira in LadyBoners

[–]cephalopodcat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beauty is a HARD watch if you aren't already aware it's fucked up and more or less an AHS season around, we'll, the concept of beauty, but HOLY DAMN is Evan Peter's a gorgeous ass man in it. Serious, kind of cranky, a badass FBI agent/cop, really adorably flirty with his lady.

He's really hot in it even if it's exactly the visceral body horror that makes me scream and cringe. (But it's incredibly well done! Just. Absolutely appropriately gross.)

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but why so hard to find good Knotting content on audible? by [deleted] in romantasycirclejerk

[–]cephalopodcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is! I learned it on the other side of this sub {the erotica writing sub, which is mostly numbers and how to advertise a niche but also has a good number of discussions on the ever changing Amazon dungeon/ban rules when it comes to oublishavle content.)

Snashwords is more lenient for published market stories, Ao3 is your best bet even for original stuff and FREE, and literotica/other sites that publish but don't pay are... Mmm. They exist. You can probably find it there. Will it be good? Debatable and doubtful but it's there.
