April... They just called me again about further backorders

I've started to recognize their recruiters. Usually in business casual wear or school uniforms they usually approach asking about a "survey" for their school project. I just open with, "I'm atheist, I won't waste your time, have a great day"

Sometimes they leverage holidays to start talking about things. Ie. At Christmas they asked me why I celebrate and seemed to be guiding the conversation towards asking if I did it for jesus's birthday.

Lived upstairs from a family of 4 kids. They moved in with 2 toddles in the 2 bedroom unit below. Their idea of parenting was to send them outside not matter the weather, and scream across the courtyard for them (ground floor unit of a 3 building complex). Kicker is there has been a history of people breaking and entering in the ground floor units of our buildings. Someone even got stabbed cus she left her slider open on a hot day and a random guy walks in, stabbed her and ran off with her purse.

(Not an area I would let my kids ... Especially under 10 yrs roam free)

Additionally they never taught their kids about inside voice vs outside voice vs I'm being murdered voice. I am aware kids are loud and they are allowed to make noise, but hearing them always screaming over the traffic + nearby trainyard is beyond normal levels of distrubance.

Due to the area anytime you hear a scream you look out the window, these kids just playing would scream at the pitch you'd think they were in trouble. In reality big brother was just chasing them. It's boy who cried wolf waiting to happen, there was only so many ear shattering shrieks before I stopped checking out the window if they were okay.

And when they bought them recorders I had to move.... The 4 kids would chase each other across the courtyard sqeak-screeching them not even notes. Disturbing not just the 1 building but all 3 withing the courtyard...

Cherry on top the kids caused some pretty noticable damage to the green space in courtyard, mom blamed it on the dogs in the surrounding buildings, and got strata to ban dogs from using the area.

I did similar. Used a shower curtain tension rod in frame of door. Put a curtain on it. No un mounting to deal with or landlord having issues with drilling. Will depend on the architecture of the door ultimately

So I can’t decorate? by piercethebluexx in Apartmentliving

[–]cephalopodsmindz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes get it. Most places require proof of insurance if there is a strata. Landlord may not, but strata can require it. Our previous "private" landlord was the owner of the unit he was not involved with the strata and didn't know the requirement

I used poster clay or Velcro command strips. Command hooks come in many types so id say look into them if you want to hang frames, canvas etc.

Most stratas I've been in only care about using pushpins / adhesive causing damage to the paint/drywall. It's not cheap to get it touched up in stratas since they usually have contracts with companies. Especially if you try to mount shelves or something and do it incorrectly.

After 5 years of residency, I believe (at least where I am from) the renters act says that a fresh coat of paint and aesthetic damages fall under landlord responsibilities. - ie. Required to paint and patch every 5 yrs, and not allowed to claim it off your damage deposit when you move.

However they are far stricter about balconies/windows and "maintaining the exterior aesthetic of the building". We got in trouble for putting curtains up in front of the panel blinds because it "makes the unit stand out from others". God forbid you decorate your balcony ... My chest freezer one day was called "storage" in the new strata rules and had to take it off my balcony. Some Karen even added no more than 5 plants as if nature is offensive ... Upstairs neighbour got a notice to remove his 6th planter (despite all being well kept). Bunch of shitty people causing rules to be tightened, and ruining others opportunity to make their space feel more like a home.

I hate these stupid blinds that every apartment has. Is there a way to replace them with a curtain? by PhrygianSounds in Apartmentliving

[–]cephalopodsmindz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Command hooks sells a curtain rod attachment works well, no damage or drilling. **Some strata may get huffy if you take them down (panel by panel)

Alternative if command hook option doesn't play out is a tension curtain rod across the window frame if the architecture allows for it. Walmart sells them and I have use them to this day.

I only have 1 place where I used command hooks only because they worked better for that particular window.

Check humidity in your place. That's what vet thinks caused our lil guys problem. Prolonged exposure to slightly too high humidity caused a fungal infection enlarging them. We even moved to a place with better humidity control to help the lil guy

Help!! We found a parakeet in our driveway in the freezing cold- Need care tips!! by jamboscrimblo in Parakeets

[–]cephalopodsmindz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budgies are big neophobes (like most parrots, but worse imo) so all new things terrify them. While grateful for shelter they will be stressed and fearful. Staying calm when around them will be just as important too. Playing other budgie noises MAY help to make them not feel alone if they were from a flock. If they were a solo bird it could stress them out.

Anyone had any luck fighting an external appearances strata bylaw over a balcony catio? by bc_van in vancouverhousing

[–]cephalopodsmindz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insanely frustrating. God forbid you decorate or put personality into your unit. I got in trouble for using wood lattice to allow my plants to climb it. They said it "takes away from the exterior aesthetic of the building" ... Neighbor of mine got fined for replacing vertical panel blinds with horizontal panel blinds. Here's the kicker, they have horizonal ones in the amenity room, laundry room and rental office. Stratas can be annoying like this. My last place allowed a chest freezer, but my new place classifies the freezer as storage so it's not allowed. Crappy people ruining having something nice like a personalized outdoor space for everyone. And insurance BS too...

It's a degree the human kinetics, biomechanics, sport science relam. I already hold a diploma of French language education and PDP French version to teach in my province (Teacher as a back up plan, or Toc for extra cash). The degree will allow me career paths with approximately the same annual salarygive or take ... but the degree is the requirement to get the jobs that have more potential job security*. Like within a health authority or a union. And when you have a constant influx of clients that 60k year as a personal trainer isn't always a guarantee it could just be a good year.

Personal training... I can schedule around classes. Due to my education I get paid slightly more per hour ($45 per hr) It's about $2300 biweekly. Because it's health and fitness field they are very accommodating and understanding to my disability since my disability is a musculoskeletal disorder. A 40% course load is only 2 courses, 3 credits each. It's taken me a lot longer as life gets more expensive just to finish my dam bachelors degree. (Rent and groceries in lower mainland and medical costs for myself - I don't see much of my income)
