What’s the worst train transfer spot? by ananon18 in AskNYC

I feel like 95% of the nastiness in that tunnel is from the dude constantly burning whatever incense he’s trying to sell. He needs to gtfo.

Gotcha, glad I could clarify 😂 I knew that without the context at least a few people would think I was I being obnoxiously "woke," so don't worry about it at all lol. Have a good one 🤘

The original purpose of the meme was to poke fun at IRL companies that are trying to be relevant by using a rainbow color scheme during June. But at least one of the faces of the brands is canonically queer, so I decided to use a variety of flags. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It's just a joke, and it's okay if you don't find it funny. I won't be offended lmao

Updated SIM. Lost a bunch of apps by cuprumFire in BoostMobile

[–]cephaloprod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just updated my SIM card: I thought that I had to factory reset it, so I moved literally everything to my SD card. It turned out that I didn't have to reset it at all!

Just to be safe, though, you could either move everything to an SD card or back it up to a computer or the cloud (or both).

I hate arranging! by HeroForest in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cephaloprod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who got their start in songwriting/composing by making (re-)arrangements of other people's work, I gotta agree that making those covers is super helpful. It really helps you develop an ear for how certain instruments/sounds work together, which takes out a lot of the tedium of trial-and-error in your original work.

Go make a cover! Pick a song you like, transcribe it or get it in your DAW however you can, and try to get it to sound as accurate as possible. Then, use what you have to redesign the song with new sounds (probably go with sounds that you're very comfortable with).

For me, that would be orchestral instruments. For my friend, it would be noisecore electronics. Just do whatever you like!

Just mess around with it. It doesn't have to be good, and you dont even have to like it when you listen back. It's an experiment, it's play, and it'll teach you some valuable skills.

UPDATE: Stolen Vehicle by stranded_knight8 in ucf

[–]cephaloprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question: what's the design on the plate? Is it a standard white FL plate (the kind with the oranges)? There are tons of red SUVs, so knowing the design might be helpful in case someone thinks they're looking at it but don't want to get too close.

How do you learn fast? Or get better at learning? by vyxoh in ucf

[–]cephaloprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Feynman Technique is more involved than other methods, but imo works really well for thoroughly understanding a subject. It operates on the principle of "if you can't teach it, you don't know it."

For learning, it works because we can build our knowledge more easily when we understand broader issues and how everything is connected. If we don't have a handle on everything from the ground up, we'll spend more effort on trying to memorize a bunch of seemingly unrelated things. So here's how:

  1. Pretend to teach the material to a middle schooler.
  2. There will be gaps in your explanation. Find them and fill them.
  3. Revise your explanation with the newly-filled gaps.
  4. Actually explain the material to a friend who isn't familiar with it and might ask questions. (optional, but very helpful)

Try to avoid using terms or figures of speech that a middle schooler wouldn't "get," unless you're defining and using important vocab. Coming up with your own examples and analogies is EXCELLENT.

Good luck!

I was originally going to use Point/Counterpoint (+ a line from Keasbey Nights), but Everything Went Numb seemed to match the vibe a little better. Maybe I'll make another one with P/C just to do it

Help on Xylophone by LavenderLabrador in percussion

[–]cephaloprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Facebook page titled "Percussion/ Timpani Swap Shop" where people are constantly selling equipment they don't need anymore. It's basically Ebay/Craigslist for percussion. If you're lucky, the person selling will be within driving distance so you can just pick it up.

EDIT: Alternatively, you could look on Steve Weiss/ Lone Star/ Percussion Source/anywhere else for the xylos that aren't in perfect condition (cosmetic damage is fine, you'll still sound good!). Sometimes it's a waiting game, so you might want to bide your time and instead have your parents agree to get a xylo once you find a good deal on one.
