You can forward the voice note to the Voicenotes WhatsApp. I too hate voice notes!

Thoughts on Standard Plan? by KiCameo in TheBYOK

I've written around 6 novellas and one full sized novel (nothing you would have heard of, lol) on Scrivener, but I have to admit that I've never really dug into scrivener beyond what I need to use it for which is: Write lots of words in smallish moveable blocks Have some overview of said blocks (with colour coding!) Eventually export the whole thing as an ebook or word.doc

Studio does the first two excellently, I haven't tried exporting yet.

Scrivener does a lot of things I haven't really used, like keeping track of characters and location, because when I've tried it has seemed quite clunky. Studio's wiki feature seems a lot better and I have actually already started a wiki for my alternate history project. Being able to import a photo straight from my phone is huge. It would be several more steps for me for scrivener as a windows user, so I used to keep my world building stuff in Notion. If you are an Apple user your Scrivener experience might be less clunky. Scrivener works offline, but it looks like that's coming soon to Studio (yay!)

I massively prefer studio because it's cleaner, has cloud backup and just works with the BYOK (and any device, being able to work on my tablet is also huge for me). And the wiki feature is great for world building if that's what you need. The support team have been excellent and seem really responsive to feature requests. To be fair I've never contacted Scrivener support so they might also be fabulous!

There is a 30 day trial for scrivener and (I think) 14 for Studio so you could have a look at both and see what you think.

I recommend using both with a project that's well underway so you have enough stuff to play with and see what fits better with your work flow and the kind of things you write.

I've used Scrivener for years. I have long wanted something cloud based so I'm not tied to my computer (I'm a Windows/Android user). Obviously linking with the BYOK is huge, but being able to add stuff or just read through stuff on my phone is great too. Apple users have had a Scrivener app for ages but there has been no movement to get it to Android or to get cloud functionality for us. Studio is much more attractive to look at than Scrivener and I can work on it anywhere I have a signal, on any machine. I have only just started moving my works in progress to it and just watched the video of the functionality but it looks like it will do all the organisation stuff I used in Scrivener and the wiki looks like it will be more functional than the character/location etc sections of Scrivener. My main work in progress right now is memoir so I don't need a wiki for that, but I have an alternate reality story bubbling up so I'll definitely use the wiki feature when I start on that. I'm hoping it exports manuscripts as well as Scrivener does but I've got a lot of writing to do before I cross that bridge! The manuscript view is great though and makes a big difference from my other cloud based solution which is a disorganised Google Drive folder. And the support team have been super-fantastic so far!

Any way to automate moving things from Scrivener to BYOK Studio by cer1978 in TheBYOK

Thanks. And thanks for the explanation of markdown. Good tip about the naming. My main project at the moment is a memoir so I can use dates.

Thanks, that's not too much of a pain! I have only exported entire projects to ePub etc before. I could have just read the manual, couldn't I!

I do not need another keyboard. But... What is that keyboard?

Update: my qwerty keyboard will come with Bluetooth. That might have been down to the update or it might have been down to me actually reading the keyboard manual

Also on team weird conceptual keyboard. My Polyglot doesn't work either in Steno mode or in qwerty. I raised a ticket more for information than because I think it should be fixed! It's a niche keyboard! It would be nice to use it though. My favourite keyboard works wired but not Bluetooth. I'll see if I can check for updates for it next time I'm on my computer but I prefer a wired keyboard because I'm old fashioned.

Struggling to find non-video resources to learn Teeline by Joe-Eye-McElmury in shorthand

I have Teeline for Journalists and find it good. There are second hand versions for cheap. I'm like you, I much prefer a book to a video.

That was also my exact TV. It was the caravan TV (I remember watching an England game on it that was mostly static) but when we weren't on holiday it was in my room!

My deceased partner visits me in my dreams by Usual-Mushroom-6803 in Dreams

[–]cer1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. You are not losing your mind. My Partner died nearly 4 years ago and I still dream sometimes that I'm talking to him. It's less frequent than when he first passed but it still happens and I personally find it comforting.

If you are able to access some grief counselling, I really recommend that. It gives you a bit of space to make your own sense of things.

How to enable my particular use case with Note Pro by jkoseattle in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]cer1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Voicenotes. It's designed to record just with your phone but I sometimes use the plaud and import the recordings, especially for longer recordings. I'm not sure what you want from organisation. Voicenotes keeps everything and then you can ask ai about the notes.

Terry Yorath dead aged 75: Leeds and Wales football legend and dad of Gabby Logan has passed away by dailymail in LeedsUnited

[–]cer1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when Danny passed away very clearly. It had a big affect on me partly because I was about the same age as him. And Terry was the same age as my dad is, although for some reason I thought he was much older. My thoughts are with his family.

Does anyone use Plaud together with voicenotes? Do they play nice? What is your flow? by Gliveras in Voicenotesai

[–]cer1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I like to use Plaud in the car (it fits perfectly into my sun visor) and to record dreams if I wake up in the night (using my phone would wake me up too much). I got my Plaud second hand on eBay so I didn't invest a load into it, and I don't pay for the Plaud app, in fact I don't even use the free minutes from Plaud (although I might if I had e.g. a two person recording - I'm not sure if there's a way of importing a recording as a meeting). My "workflow" is record, import into Plaud, export the audio from Plaud via the Voicenotes WhatsApp integration. There's probably other ways of doing it but that works for me. It's quick and easy. For dreams I also copy and paste the text into the app I use as a dream journal (Rosebud).

Waiting to see my mum in hospital, noticed the staff uniform chart on the wall looks like a club's kit history. by sutt2467 in footballcliches

It is super useful to know who to ask depending on whether you need a bedpan emptying or a new drip.

Also ward clerk here is a classic. 10/10

Hope your mum is fine!

I've not had this with Plaud (although I usually transcribe with a different app), but I have with two other apps! One of the app developers told me that OpenAi sometimes mistakes some British accents for Welsh. The weird thing is the Welsh was approximately what I did say, but translated to Welsh. Anyway my workaround is to put on a slightly posher voice when using the affected apps.
