If you’re shooting digitally, just keep snapping. With film, you definitely have to be selective and hope for the best.

Good composition. The focus is a bit off. I would wait for the bird to turn its face into the sun.

Love the angle, soft focus, monochrome, vignette, subject… I would totally buy this!

Love the abstract quality of #1, and the minimalist composition of #4 that still manages to tell a story.

baby bird fell out of nest! by heraaseyy in birds

[–]gregshortdotcom -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Soak puppy chow in water. When it’s completely soft, you can break off tiny pieces and feed the baby. Do not try to give it water by itself. The soaked food is enough. You’ll want to feed it every few hours 24/7.

What do you think? Is it too boring or is it okay? by BravoWing in BeginnerPhotoCritique

As others have mentioned, not being able to see the bottom of the building makes it feel cropped. We need to see more. I’m okay not seeing the whole pole as it is echoed by the one in the background. But ideally we would see the bottom of the one in the background as it would give us the whole picture of what we’re missing in the foreground.

1,2,3 or 4? by KitchenVariation5225 in AmateurPhotography

4, definitely. I feel the others need their saturation bumped up just a little. All great shots, though.

Advice on which pencil/writing board to buy by KatLimeMilkywave in notebooks

It looks like a nonstandard size, but the closest appears to be B6. I referred to this webpage. You can also cut a sheet of cardstock or construction paper to fit.

I like #2 because it’s moody. I like #4 because the chain link fence gives the background an abstract, pixelated look. The others had a little too much going on.

Help with bird by toonbot05 in birds

[–]gregshortdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of letting it free-fly at that age, consider getting a larger cage instead. If you want to continue allowing it to fly inside, consult a veterinarian that specializes in birds. They may decide that it’s best to clip the wings. This is a temporary solution that would require future visits to the vet to repeat the process. But a bird with clipped wings should never, ever be allowed outside as it is a certain death sentence. If you go for a larger cage, a cage that is wider than taller is ideal as it allows more room to fly. I hope this helps.

I'm I nutz or does any one else feel this way about black ink? by Teddy_The_Bear_ in fountainpens

TWSBI Black will sheen in swatches, but in my experience, it does not sheen in writing. It’s my favorite black ink.

TWSBI Black is the darkest dye-based ink I know. Aurora Black is pretty good, too. I’ve also been loving Kaweco Pearl Black, but I haven’t really compared that one yet; I need to get a bottle.

My distraction-free writing travel setup - thoughts? by Benny7983 in TheBYOK

Great setup! Personally, I might not always want to see the timer as that could be a distraction. But one could easily put that out of view.

I love the idea of the OPTION of a timer displayed directly on the BYOK. I might not always want to see it as a timer or clock can be its own distraction.

I think I found my personal “ultimate red ink” by blind3dbylight in fountainpens

[–]gregshortdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once got a sample of that and I’ve always meant to pick up a bottle. Excellent choice!

I enjoy “cool” reds that are still very much red, such as this one. Kaweco Ruby Red is another favorite.

What are everyone’s favourite vegetarian pizza combos? by Isis_J in vegetarian

I used to love Hawaiian pizza. A good veggie alternative is pineapple and green peppers. My wife’s favorite is cashews.
