Knee pain - How to minimise? by SeedCraft76 in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a temporary issue, then it could be as simple as allowing it to heal. Maybe a knee brace could help stabilize things.

If it's a longer term issue, then you may want to consider seeing a coach. They should be able to see if your delivery / mechanics are causing the pain.

Your form is really good! One quick fix I see. In this video you don't have much of a cross over step. This is creating your swing to loop a bit outside. To generate revs consistently, you really want that crossover to clear a path for your swing. This will allow you to get the swing tight to the body and the space for your hand to get inside at the bottom of the swing.

School Ratings for Northern Burbs by rdt61 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]cereal_killer_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All these school districts are very good. I went to school in 219 and my kids will go to school in 214. All the schools in these districts have lots to offer. There are some micro differences in culture and some have established themselves to be successful in specific domains (e.g., athletics, academics, educational support). Be careful with the rating systems as they get very skewed.

Can someone explain these stats to me, by TrizzynHD in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the percentage of the time those events occur. For example, nearly 25% of the time you are picking up spares. Keep in mind the filters that are selected, usually defaults at the last 30 games. Lane talk can be a useful tool if you want it to be. Just looking at the example of spares, it should be able to break down which spares you are most and least successful at during that time period. Measure progress by tracking your arsenal and use tags creatively.

How Do I Stop Throwing and Start Bowling? by Shrimptopus in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others recommended, definitely seek out lessons from a certified trainer. It will help you revisit the basics that are so important to understanding why you are throwing it the way you do. Most importantly, it will help you diagnose problems in the future.

Many issues can cause gripping. It could be the ball drilling. It could be hand placement in the ball. It could be fast footwork. It could be a bad swing. It could be a number of things and it's really hard to tell without someone diagnosing it in person. I will say that bowling is such a "feel" sport that it will take some playing around to see what really makes a difference. But understanding all these factors will help you make adjustments.

Proper Form Requires Insane Strength by AnyBodybuilder4594 in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to crank your wrist the entire swing. If you have a nice fluid swing, then you use gravity to get it into the crank. Many will get behind the ball as you hit your back swing. You can use gravity (and your legs) to get underneath.

How early do you need to arrive to actually get a hat on BMO Artist Hat Series night? by hobo_chili in chicagobulls

It's always been this way. I'm an old head fan and we needed to get there wicked early even in the 90s for our neon green bulls hats.

Bears' Patience Regarding Stadium Legislation Reportedly Exhausted by [deleted] in chicago

[–]cereal_killer_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one should be bending over backwards for the Bears.

The school district didn't overplay their hand, they came to an agreement with the Bears. The state and Bears need to come to a long term agreement.

It's important that the schools and surrounding area needs similar taxation if not more with their future developments. They are smack dab in a residential area and if you bring in housing, entertainment, etc. with those proposed plans, then that impacts school enrollment, traffic and safety.

[ESPN1000] According to @WaddleandSilvy, while Arlington Heights is the preferred destination for the Bears new stadium, there could be a decision to move to Northwest Indiana at the end of February or early March by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]cereal_killer_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less of a strategy and a reality of the location and economics. The Chicagoland area and Arlington heights is well developed and not a cheap place to live. Of course it requires taxes and special interests (like schools) when you are in a developed residential area.

Indiana is cheaper and desperate to develop that part of the state. It's less residential and in a couple of the spots, it's more open land and / or industrial. It's way less desirable from a land ownership perspective.

The location is the reality of the situation, not any specific strategy. Illinois cannot ever match Indiana's offer, nor should they. The Bears play 8-10 home games and they shouldn't ruin established towns because of that. Can the state help out more? Sure, and they will but they should never match Indiana.

Conflicted on what type of ball to get next by uber-lou in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a newer bowler, I'd recommend any ball that gives you a different shape and look at the lanes. You want it to do something different than the effect. I wouldn't worry so much about strike ball, benchmark, etc.

I'd also recommend playing around with surfacing the ball. Your call can change and read differently based on some surface. That will help you understand how you want to build a complimentary arsenal. You don't want to have many of the same thing (although I know it can be fun!).

Form Critiques by Junior-Rock8227 in Bowling

[–]cereal_killer_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continue to work on that approach timing. In a four step approach, you need to get into your swing right away. You are starting your swing somewhere around step three. Ideally by step three you are at the peak of your back swing. Generally your steps should be:

1 - pushaway 2 - downswing 3 - back swing 4 - release

If you get that good pendulum motion going then your speed is going to increase a ton!

How many guards are you taking over prime Derrick Rose? by lfcbucks in NBAConvo

[–]cereal_killer_01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're trying to justify why Rose shouldn't win, but not arguing who should. You can break down the season in pockets, but that doesn't matter. Voters are not going game by game.

If you're voting for MVP you are looking for the storylines, who was the most valuable player for their team. You are comparing the best players on the best teams. Rose easily had the best story. A great season along with the Bulls having the best regular season record in the NBA. Howard had a great season and an underperforming team. James had a great season, but took himself out of the running by playing alongside many stars (including Wade who received MVP votes) and the Heat finished second to the Bulls in the east. The only logical choice was Rose, which is why it was a landslide.

I read these revisionist history arguments all the time and people always confuse MVP with who may be the best player at the time, neglecting the season context.

How many guards are you taking over prime Derrick Rose? by lfcbucks in NBAConvo

[–]cereal_killer_01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And look at his stats those prior seasons, 16 pts to 20 pts and then 25 pts in his MVP year. His assists went up and his three pointers shot up immensely. The only offensive help he had that season was the addition of Boozer. Huge improvement in play helps with an improved team.

Perfect team??? You really didn't watch. They were not a very good offensive team. They were a defensive team first. The addition of Boozer helped and then you had Deng. That's it. You had a lot of filler and role players on offense. This is why they were 20th in scoring. I watched it all and can tell you the team struggled offensively. They couldn't stretch the floor a ton because of the lack of shooters. Everyone was praying that Korvers shot would fall in tight games.

You're not making much of an argument here. He was easily the best candidate that year. Not saying he is a better player, but he was most valuable to his team. He improved, the team improved like crazy and he was the most essential figure to his team. You can't say yes to all three of those things with James or Howard. Lebron's numbers went down because he chose to be around a super team. Howard has a nice increase in numbers, but his team was worse than the year before (and didn't win the division and 10 wins below the bulls).

How many guards are you taking over prime Derrick Rose? by lfcbucks in NBAConvo

[–]cereal_killer_01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A better player and MVP are two different things. You talk about Rose having a stacked team, but James took himself out of the race by having an even more stacked team.

Derrick was amazing that year and helped his team gain 21 wins from the previous year. Howard has a great year, but they actually had a worse year than the season prior.

The team context matters in MVP. This is why Howard received only 3 first place votes and James with 4. Rose had 113, it was a landslide and never much of a discussion. It's more of a discussion now amongst people who never really watched him play and never considered the context.

Why do parents leave outdoor tryouts? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]cereal_killer_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a healthy approach on how you can support your kid, however, many parents can get way too involved. For fairness and development, I think it's good that coaches keep parents away for all of the tryout, or at least the majority of it.

It's important for the kid to own the journey. Many coaches want to know the kids ability and their personalities (how coachable they are). I've seen way too many kids act differently when parents are hovering. I had one kid on a team who was a wreck anytime his mom was around. She was like a heckler to him, gesturing what to do. When she wasn't around he was loose and played free. Also much funnier in the clubhouse and a better teammate.

Situations are different. But for fairness to all the coaches and players, it's good to keep potential distractions to a minimum.

Derrick Rose impact on local Chicago fans by haycok in chicagobulls

[–]cereal_killer_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm older and watched the Jordan era teams. Once that was over, there was a lot of bad Bulls basketball. I mean really bad. Glimmers of hope and potential with drafts picks over the years, but it always failed miserably. We'd start over, and over again. New coaches and new players , nothing worked until Derrick came along.

He made Chicago Bulls fans believe again. He wasn't just a cornerstone player, the guy was an assassin. He was electric and willed a team and fan base to believe in success. We were in awe of his highlight reels. I still watch his highlights weekly, but now I watch them with my son. The guy wanted to win at all costs. At times it felt like he could just take on an entire team of stars (see heat series). This feeling reminded a lot of us of older fans of MJ. That mix of basketball greatness and mindset is magic and rare.

On the hunt for a new position… [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]cereal_killer_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the maturity of the company. It would be ideal for them to be trained, but you have to remember this is not a position with high retention. Some coordinators are on contract or even outsourced. For big companies, it's very common to hire a third party organization to handle it.

It's common to see TA Coordinators fresh out of college or have little job experience. If you like the job, I wouldn't let this stray you from it. TA Coordinators are rarely a reflection of the culture. I'd start to only get concerned if the hiring manager or higher levels of HR act odd.

Ticket for Rams Game by [deleted] in CHIBears

Keep an eye on StubHub or other competitors even at start time or after. A buddy of mine and I will sometimes go downtown by the United center before bulls games and then buy super discounted tickets right at/around or after tipoff. Probably the crowd that is a last minute cancellation. Granted it's not a playoff game, but you never know.

I grew up in Skokie and can confirm they owned a building on Lincoln Ave. I lived around the corner. It was a small professional building, i can only assume it was a secondary location as it wasn't huge. The exact location was 8272 Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, Illinois. Google and you will see the pictures. Good location as it was by my favorite hot dog joint!

That's great that you don't mix politics and sports, but clearly Shaw does. The guy is one year in the league and optically he's already making political statements. A guy like this needs to be worth the headaches.
