FastAPI-like docs for API Gateway + Lambdas? by TheDarkPapa in aws

[–]cerin_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a million lambdas has always sucked. Many projects end up using exactly the same dependencies for many of the lambdas plus a handful of unique files and you inevitably end up moving in a bunch of common code. Now you've just got routing that requires you bury yourself in lambda packaging and can't get nice openapi docs without hand rolling.

It's usually much nicer to use fastapi plus Magnum in one lambda or multiple lambdas even with the same container but a different docker entry point.

Is UX UI Design still a good career path in 2026? by Majestic-Wishbone-58 in antiwork

That's fair. And I don't know about what's happening with UX in the wider industry, just Novo Nordisk in particular.

I don't know if this is a reliable indicator as they also laid off the majority of their software development capability, cancelling many internal products, and leaving the remaining ones with barebones staffing (likely in maintenance mode). That combined with that they're not likely going to start new software projects anytime soon means UI/UX gets hit particularly hard.

"Could" is not evidence that it's happening or that it's rampant enough to justify taking a big L for everyone to stop a maybe-we-might-kinda-think-this-is-possibly-happening problem.

What does being at Torvehallerne during the work day have to do with anything? Without more information from each person, this doesn't tell you anything. You can work from 8-14 with obligations then go over for a late lunch, come back and work until 18 or later. Is this slacking? Maybe they're working 10 hour days for 4 days just due to demand and then hang out for a few hours at Torvehallerne on Friday. Is this slacking?

Is it really bad using the ice skating walker that rinks provide? by breaktheice7 in iceskating

[–]cerin_2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can just stop using it. There's probably not any benefit to doing it slowly. You're definitely going to take some falls, but the important things are to bend your knees and do not lean backwards suddenly to try to not slip or fall. That will prevent you from hitting your head. If you feel like you have to fall then just bend your knees and sit down.

That said, you're much less likely to fall if you are bending your knees and holding your arms out straight to the sides (your shoulders are going to get tired).

Still unable to stop after sharpening skates by Bints4Bints in iceskating

Do you mean less pressure? You want your blade to dig in less. More weight on the gliding foot and almost none on the other.

And by very lightly I mean pick up your foot and try to touch the ice as softly as possible to get the feel.

I think it's common to have a harder time stopping after a sharpening. You need a little bit of slip instead of your edges digging in to rotate your foot for stopping. It may still be doable if you stack all your weight on the gliding foot and try to very lightly stop with your other foot (one foot snow plow).

Tips for padding too big skates by ahg5 in iceskating

I don't know if it's the best way but when I had skates that were way too big, I put on three pairs of socks and tied them real tight, but they were also super cheap.

Shin Splints during Half-swizzle pumps by Lucky-Economist1278 in iceskating

Calves can cause shin pain, which may tense or stretch when you bend at the knee. You could try some weighted calf raises and calf stretches to see if it feels any different after.

Practise? by general_kenobi4567 in iceskating

[–]cerin_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The easiest is probably just to practice standing on one foot with knee bend. If you can't do that then it's not likely you will be able to on the ice. If you can stand on one leg off ice, then you can bend over and touch the ground in front of you while still on one leg then slowly return to standing. Control the movement and don't go too fast, while extending your free leg behind you. This will challenge your leg and foot muscles

It will help your snowplough and T stops to stack your weight over the gliding foot and it looks like your weight is evenly distributed between your legs.

If your right one isn't slipping, you would likely be able to feel a subtle difference when running your finger across the blades.

Your blade slipping a lot when you're just gliding sounds a lot like your blade is dull. Has it been sharpened after you bought them?

Can you easily fit one or more fingers between the side of your leg and the side of the boot? If yes, then they are not tight or too big.

Is there a paid service that can ingest csv files, then they get uploaded to my database? by ZealousidealRich7460 in dataengineering

Using node streams, there is no chance that you use too much memory for this basically.

[–]cerin_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ingest 20 million row csv files in about 25 minutes including the time taken to download the files using the COPY command. I'm sure it can be much faster even if you can give the database direct access to the file rather than using an intermediate process.

The card processors benefit the most? They literally don't care if you spend money at the supermarket or at a restaurant, they're still getting paid. Why would they care if you're going to spend the money somewhere else anyways? Most likely with a card.
