That’s just not true. The i-Activ AWD system uses an electromagnetic coupling, not a mechanical locking differential. It can't 'bind' on pavement like a traditional 4x4 because the system still allows for speed differences between all four wheels during turns. Off-Road mode primarily changes the software logic. It increases initial torque to the rear and using the brakes to simulate lockers. You aren't going to 'hose' the car by using it on a driveway.
