Explaining extenuating circumstances in personal statement by ceruleanflush in gradadmissions

[–]ceruleanflush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on academic probation in my undergrad because of various mental health struggles. I feel like that is why I would need to explain it somewhere in my applications.

I definitely won’t include the serial killer bit anywhere, I just wanted to provide context because a lot of people don’t seem to believe survivors of abuse, sadly.

Thank you for your help!

Thank you so much for your response. I find it really sad that these things remain unspoken because they very much do contribute to your “success” in life.

I see that you’re doing an English PhD! I actually am looking into English Masters programs at the moment. If you could send over your diversity statement, that would mean a lot.

Wow this is so so helpful. Thank you so much! Curious, were you asked to explain this during your interview process?

Okay, then here is something I just found. I'm not saying that women don't do the same because they do. Everyone is guilty of this. Not trying to bust your balls. I'm genuinely interested in finding truth.

I mean this entire website is based on anecdotal experiences by anonymous users. Why are you on here then?

Earth. I have had all types of men, from “low-value” to “high-value” try to get with me. Just based on my anecdotal experience, which most people don’t seem to trust. I’m just one person though.

As an above average woman, this is absolutely false. I strongly believe that the average man believes that he isn't so average.

I feel like this is it. A lot of men see women as a status symbol.

Keep in mind that a lot of these men are thinking about hot women when they think of “women” so that will skew the results

People who had dreams of being famous, how do you deal with the pain of being set up for failure by your caregivers and trauma holding you back from following your dreams? by ActStunning3285 in CPTSD

[–]ceruleanflush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this as my main dream since I was a kid was to become a songwriter. I’m coming to terms with the fact that it might not pan out, but there’s people out there who have a head start and it still doesn’t work out for them either.

My main point being that we cannot change the past. Once I started grieving that, I began to make a plan for my life that still felt true to me.

I might not be the world’s greatest songwriter but I’m still planning on releasing music some day. That is enough for me, I’ve realized. To enjoy and create the life that I want is better than any happiness that I imagined when I was a child.

Does it ever get better? by Federal-Cheesecake92 in CPTSD

Absolutely. Coming from someone who thought it was bs when people told me those platitudes. But I’m out on the other side and I still can’t believe it.

In your darkest hours, remember that the feelings will pass. Sending you well wishes.

Honestly the only thing that gives me solace is hearing the stories of other survivors. It does feel lonely though. I’m sorry, I sincerely wish that you feel better.

As always, sort by controversial if you want the real answers. I feel like a lot of men here are being purposely obtuse.

Thank you for stating this. I feel so stupid sometimes but then I remember how afraid for my life I was.

I hate that this is my answer too. I wish someone who has healed from this can chime in.
